HumanTarget
Hello all!I'm pretty new to this forum and I'm sure others have posted along similar lines but as this is my first attempt at building a mac I thought I would just come out and ask for your help. I'm doing the Intel Bundle and I was wondering what the best first step would be as far as building my mac. Will any optical drive work or are there recommended ones? Will the onboard vid be sufficient or will i need a graphics card? Thanks in advance for helpin out a newbie!Looking at this post I can see that it belongs more in the hardware section so I will change the question. I am looking for the best way to go about installing leo after all the hardware issues have been worked out. Having built pcs for years I'm just wondering how the process differs and if you all have any suggestions for a newbie at building macs. Thanks! Korrupted
1. What're your PC specs? If you don't know how to get them, download Everest Home Edition, CPU-Z, or PC Wizard(also made by the CPU-Z guys), and that'll give you a good idea of what you have. 2. You may want to try Tiger before Leopard, since Leopard is the new wilderness when it comes to osx86. I'd say more stuff works in Tiger right now since we've had over a year to play with it, and we've only had about 3 months with Leopard, even though quite a bit of modern hardware works in it. But if you're feeling bold, go ahead and try out leopard, it can't hurt. HumanTarget
Well I would be running the Intel Bundle so a quad core Q6700 and Intel DG33Tl mobo. The secondary hardware, such as psu and ram, will be picked up depending on whether or not this is a feasible system for building a mac. Korrupted
I just looked it up, and the G33 motherboard series doesn't seem to work for osx86. You might want to look into a p35 chipset, like the Gigabyte GA-p35C-DS3R. That's the mobo I use and it required minimal patching to get it all to work. CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115017 (Q6600 2.4 Ghz) Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128050 (GA-P35C-DS3R mobo) That's what I'd get, but it's up to you. I recommend the Q6600 over the Q6700 because the 6700 is just a bit faster and has no more added features, and the 6600 is nearly half the price. Prometheus54
Well, actually it works... Try that function named "search"! There are some threads about the DG33TL. I've got a DG33TL, too. And it is working! Ok, Audio and Lan needed some patches... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76393-first-timer/#findComment-602514 Share on other sites
