Man, I take my hat off to you! I just love being part of this forum where I can find people like this! You're a gentelmen!A BIG THANKS for all your help Weaksauce! Gotta say that I love my Hackintosh!!!

Thanks! I'm really pleased with how this thread has progressed, it's been a pleasure to work with everyone and make our systems better and better.

Another status update:

1. Working on UUID Error #35 for EFI 5.2

2. Adding 10.5.2 instructions to Revision 2 of the Guide

3. 8800GTX arriving tomorrow (modding into Quadro 5600)

4. Second 2-port SATA RAID card arriving this weekend (going to try dual RAID cards)

5. 8-gig USB stick arriving tomorrow (going to try to use it for an emergency boot thumb drive)

I've got classes late tomorrow night then work/school on Wednesday, so I'll have more time to test the new Video Card and USB stick on Thursday. I don't have a tracking # for the RAID card yet but I'm hoping it will be here by Friday. What I may do is release the new Guide this weekend (I know, I know, another week!), but this way I'll have more details about 10.5.2, the Quadro mod, the USB stick, multiple RAID cards, etc. I've also been studying overclocking so I may toss in a primer on that as well.

I've created a Flickr group for our thread called Steve's Screamers:

Post your pics, show off your rig! I've got an ugly shot of my Frankenmac up there, so add some pics of your beauties! :)

Just wanted to confirm that the instructions on netkas.org for the 10.5.2 worked great for me too. The only thing I'd add is that if you're using a wireless PCI card remember to backup your IO80211Family.kext and IONetworkingFamily.kext otherwise you'll be scrambling around like an idiot (like me) trying to remember how to get it working again :(

What wireless card are you using? I wonder if that's the kext I need to grab from iATKOS/Kalyway to get my WMP54G working...

Killed my sound but I just ran Taruga's patch and it's working again.

Menu bar is now translucent or not, I thought there might be a slider.

Drop down menu transparency has all but gone, pity.

Stacks folder view is ok, but I'd prefer to see the docs 'poking out' of the top.

Which dump did you use? The linux one included on the file he made for download??

I am dragging and dropping the one to the other, it repairs permissions and then tells me to reboot. When it reboots I have no sound and if I look in the system profiler it says I have no sound installed. Any insight would be appreciated.

OH, BTW! I updated the bios to the new setup (thanks weaksauce!) I didn't know it was out there!

Also, I am on an MBR install, I need to get off my lazy keister and do the GUID, so that might be how I differ from ya'lls setup.

On one totally side note of no particular import, Weaksauce, you are truly a MUCH better man than I.

It's the Netgear WG311T, but I think they all use the same kext's. PM me your email address and I'll send them over.

Wooohoo! I finally got my hackintosh running! Wireless PCI card worked right out of the box. I started all over from the beginning and added the steps here to the part where you install the kexts from the USB stick. That got everything working with my 8600GT card.

The Apple update doesn't offer 10.5.1, only "10.5.2 combined". I think I'll wait to hear more of you having success before I dive into that. Hoping to give FCS a try tomorrow.

Thank you, Weaksauce for taking the time to write such a detailed guide. No way I would've ever got this working otherwise.

Hi

I've just updated my mobo to 1.5.2. Did not replace any kext after upgrading. only deletet AppleCPU.... and edited the update file (Netcas instruction). It worked! Sound died but thats just a patch away...

My wireless Linksys WMP300N is detected as AirPort and "just works"

Yep, the one from the BA2 pack. Try deleting System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext then running the patcher.

Im a little apprehensive at attempting the 10.5.2 upgrade as per Netkas.. seems complicated... Was it hard?

Maybe you should be. I tried the netkas instructions and during the 10.5.2 upgrade, the computer froze up and screen was shadowed (grayed out). Then a message popped up that said I needed to hit the reset button (which it repeated in several other languages). Now when I try to boot up, it just brings up that message about hitting the reset button. I don't know how I could've done anything wrong.

Oh well, I was going to change how I setup the partitioning anyway. :)

Screwed up my install trying to do the update. I followed the netkas guide but my machine will not boot now.

Did you use the script or manually remove AppleIntelCPU?

I have not had any success with fixing the UUID Error #35 under EFI 5.2. Strings are not supported under 5.2, so my EFI 8.0 string fix from Stella has no impact on our current installations. This means that SuperDuper won't work on 5.2. Grrr! I may have to delay Revision 2 so that I can package up EFI 8.0. /bangs head against wall

In other news, I've found a fantastic alternative to the Apple Aluminum Bluetooth Keyboard. Here is a video review:

Features:

1. No Bluetooth required

2. No Line-of-sight required (like on IR keyboards)

3. Includes RF USB dongle (works through walls)

4. Fits across your lap (YAY!)

5. Built-in touchpad (no mouse required for lap or couch surfing!)

6. Super cheap ($40 - half the price of Apple's keyboard!)

7. Works on Hackintosh

8. Super lightweight

It works out of the box in Leopard and the trackpad supports double-tap to click as well as scrolling. It does NOT include a Windows key, which means no Apple (Command) key. You will have to use some sort of keyboard remapping software to add that button such as ControllerMate. I haven't done any remapping yet since this first keyboard is actually for an HTPC I'm building, but I ordered a couple more for my computer and my wife's computer so I'll post more details about that later. In its place is a left-click and right-click button, so you can also add something nifty like a macro button for Dashboard or something. Here are some links:

I am sorry to stear off the 10.5.2 subject but I am wondering if anybody else is having keyboard and mouse lagging problems it has become very annoying, it will work on and off like it is always playing catch up. I have tried 3 different keyboards and mice USB,bluetooth,RF still no success. I did notice that the keyboard num lock would turn on and off like plugging it in and out I have also used different USB ports :)

I have searched around and it seems there are other mac users with macbooks who have similar problems anybody got a fix?

If you are running 10.5.1 like me, people who have updated to 10.5.2 is it now working?

Thanks in advance

YES!! I've had mouse lagging problems for the last 3 days, on and off. I don't know what's causing it, but then I've been experimenting with EFI 8 so I dunno.

New Work Schedule:

1. 8800GTX & 8GB USB stick arriving today (modding/testing)

2. Second RAID card arrives this weekend (testing)

3. EFI 8.0 testing (hoping to get at least MBR working)

4. 10.5.2 instructions being adding to Guide

The UUID fix is a no-go on EFI 5.2 due to the lack of support for strings, so I'm forced to dump Rev.2 for now to focus on getting EFI 8.0 working so that we can use SuperDuper. I feel that a cloning/backup system is the priority right now, especially with 10.5.2 on the loose. I could release the cleaned-up 5.2 update, but it won't work with SuperDuper, which can be a hassle if your 10.5.2 update goes south. So by this weekend I'll report back on the status of the 8800GTX -> Quadro 5600 mod, whether or not a USB stick can be cloned to and used as a bootable drive (just for an emergency boot stick), and whether or not dual SI3132 RAID cards work. In the meantime I will be working on getting at least an MBR-based EFI 8.0 install down pat, so cross your fingers - it's going to be a busy week! ^_^

Reinstalled after 10.5.2 update hosed my system. Now my wireless connection is pathetically slow (<1Kbps) and frequently dropping connection. It was plenty fast last night. Other computers are having no wireless speed issues. Any ideas?

Haven't yet done any updates beyond 10.5.0 because the wireless speed is too slow.

Try using the 10.4.8 IO8011/IONetworkingFamily kext's - these work great for me, you can find them here:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=510131

Worked perfectly for me. Make sure you executed the script properly, remembered to replace the line with dsmos.kext and also replace your AppleSMBios.kext with the one from this guide before rebooting.

Thanks for the reply. I may have been confusing. I did a completely fresh install using this guide (plus 10.5.2 nvidia kexts) just as I did yesterday (which resulted in perfectly fine wireless speeds). I redid it all the same as I did yesterday but this time the wireless is barely functional. I guess I can try throwing different wireless kexts at it, as you suggested.

I could never get my wireless to work reliably or at any kind of decent speeds until I used the older 10.4.8 networking kext's. Not sure why your new install is different to your old one, but it can't hurt to try...

Thanks for all your hard work weaksauce12. I've been up in the air about building a frankenstein box, but I gave in and just bought my system and it should be here Thursday. Hopefully you'll have the new guide ready to go by then!

Hi guys,

I'm looking at some advice.

I'm really happy with my Bad Axe 2 Hackintosh at home, but now, it's time to upgrade my workstation at work (graphics & multimedia production).

At work, money is not an issue, BUT, by policy we can't buy a Mac. So, I'd really like to buy the higuest spec clon PC I can buy (of course 100% hackintosh compatible), so I can make them happy buying a PC and also be able to run OS X :)

Money not being an issue, Does anyone know of a Mobo that is better than Bad Axe 2?

What hardware I can buy that outperforms what I have at home?? (details in my signature).

THANK YOU!

What kind of policy doesnt let you buy a mac but lets you spend money as no object on a fake mac?

Thats a really weird policy...

The thing is that we can't connect a mac to the internal network because they are not approved (not even a PC with Vista for the moment until it has been tested thoroughly -It's a big company and the rules come from overseas), It has to be a PC with XP at the most. :(

They Let me spend money on a PC -period. I'm just trying to be sneaky and buy a PC that I can run OS X too ;-)
