The Baron
would 330w PSU be to little for this project? No one seems to post the PSU in the signature that i see. 330w will struggle with this board & Q6600. Add a graphics card and you're going to have problems down the line. Always buy the best power supply you can afford (I'm using a Corsair 620w) as if it goes down, it can take a few components with it. shavex
Alright first of all I would like to say that this is the WORST install guide EVER!!! I'll list the problems 1. It says you dont have technical knowledge to do it. But as someone who is familiar with the multiple OS booting I would think it wouldnt be that hard... but now I am left with having to boot from the (Ultimate Boot CD) UBCD because my boot sector is messed up due to this guide. 2. It says to run a memtest86+ over night on some CD that i dont know where it came from, so I didnt know how to do that. 3. It says to Disable ACPI, but it doesnt tell you how. And also the Marvell Controller and where do i get the BIOS image to burn? 4. It also tells you to apply a Patch in Tiger, how the heck do you do that when you cant just double click on a file and it does it? 5. How do you format a USB stick? Now for the problems not related to the install guide... I was following along, and from my exerience its best to format the partition you want for Mac with fat32 using the GParted cd. I do that, then in the Kalyway CD i tried to format that to a Mac OS X Journaled and it refreshs and stays in the same format and tells me that there are boot errors on that partition. Now whenever I boot up my computer cant boot the Harddrive without help from the UBCD. I've tried restoring the MBR thinking thats what messed it up, but no luck. It just goes to the ethernet and tries to boot when I dont have a CD in. So other than the awful tutorial, how do i restore my computer to where it will boot normally?! The Baron
Alright first of all I would like to say that this is the WORST install guide EVER!!! Great way to get help from the people on this topic. This guide has helped many people get 10.5 installed, me included. I suggest, in no particular order, Learning how to ask a civil question, Google & Windows 98. Man, nothing like a peice of {censored} showing up and throwing out some lame comments. To get your computer to boot normally, you go buy a real mac you cheap skate. And say thanks where its deserved. You dont just come in here and say stuff like that. Didnt mommy teach you any manners? I think an apology is warranted before you'll get any help...Or please, leave this great thread which I've been enjoying and following a**hole free for two months. I have never built a computer, toyed with anything other than using my macs for Video Editing. With this guide, I built a computer and had a functioning hackintosh within an hour or two..... geez.. some people.... Gatorfreak
First of all, let me say this is by far the most helpful thing I've found for building a hackintosh. Now, enough sucking up.... I tried following the guide and it locked up when I tried booting off the hard drive. I tried removing NVinject.kext and it would show the gray screen with apple logo for a moment and then it reboot. I tried using NVinject.kext version 0.2.1 (since I have a 8600GT video card) and again I got the gray screen with apple logo for a moment and then it reboot. Maybe I've gunked it all up and need to start all over with NVinject 0.2.1? When trying different kexts, do I need to redo the "unmount, ./startupfiletool, mount" routine after each time I change a kext? Or just change a kext and redo the permissions? Am I correct to think that I need NVinject 0.2.1 to get a 8600GT card working? Nano07
@SHAVEX: I felt like writing a long response, but then I changed my mind. My summary: 1) Somehow I'm guessing that not being able to have boot your computer is the smallest of your problems. 2) These people here are a bunch of nice, willing to help people. why are you being rude? There's no need to. Do you think you will acomplish more because you're being rude.... bump! NO! 3) I know you must be feeling frustrated because it doesn't work. Be realistic, don't blame the guide. IT'S YOU! 4) Buy a MAC. It will solve just the "technical" part of your problem. The rest... mmmm.... take some holidays (or medication)! The Baron
10.5.2 is out! Who is going to try it first!?!?! Going to wait until the package is on Apple.com, then I'll give it a whirl. Was going to do a clean install tomorrow anyway (Mail lost all my mailboxes and Safari lost some prefs, wierd). Good luck to the first to try.... EDIT: Just had a look at Netkas's site http://netkas.org/, looks like a bit of editing is called for whilst it installs. WIGS
I am also having a tough time with setting up bluetooth keyboard and mouse. When I set them up it all works fine until I reboot the M/C then it is like I have to delete the device and run a search again as it doesn't work after booting up. On a second note is anybody running bluetooth or any RF keyboard that can access the bios on start up I have at the moment got to use 2 keyboards and 2 mice which is really annoying as I am dual booting.Any help or suggestions appreciated. just an update to people looking for a plug and play bluetooth keyboard and mouse I have now a successful solution get a logitec divino, plugged in the usb stick and worked straight away no messing with setting up the bluetooth program to find it. Works more like a RF keyboard and mouse and also I can access the bios on start up or press any key to change Darwin boot loader for dual booting. lindmar
Anyone feeling daring? 10.5.2 was just released... Sounds like from the main forum there are a few issues already. We need people with a base install to sort things out, I'm going to sit tight until its all working solid. H36
I tried 10.5.2 with an install from this guide and got a kernel panic on install and all ensuing reboots. This was from Software Update, not the main site. Time for a fresh install anyway. joneSi
I'm almost there. I am only missing audio...I ran the patcher and dragged the txt file over to it, it told me that it worked, but I still have no audio via digital coax or optical. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, the rest works GREAT. I'm typing this on my new sony 46w3000 1080p TV and my NEW hackintosh! This one is as follows: D975xbx2 (aka the Bad Axe 2) E6600 - no oc 2gb OCZ platinum ram 4-4-4-15 keyboard and trackpad combo via bluetooth (logitech!) dynex wifi card (working) 7600gs working (natit) vanilla install with MBR, moving to GUID later Only thing, like i said, is audio. I can give more if needed, just let me know what info you need. weaksauce12
10.5.2 ate my install. I'll try slipstreaming it tonight. Update: Netkas has some instructions: http://netkas.org/ Looks like Guide Rev. 2 will be pushed back another day or two. I'll add some instructions for installing 10.5.2. I'm also working on getting a solution for UUID Error #35 for EFI 5.2, which I know many of us have been experiencing. The Baron
Just used Netkas's instructions, worked like a charm. Use the script, saves the hassle of catching the kext being installed. I only backed up AppleSMBIOS.kext, which I replaced before reboot, after repairing permissions with Disk Utility. Booted with -v, first time took 20 seconds then reboot. Booted up to the light blue screen, stuck there for about 1 min, but then got to desktop. About 2 mins more of heavy disk activity. Now everything fine, one thing to report...Safari is LIGHTNING fast. I never thought it was sluggish before, but now pages are instantaneous. Not played around with anything else yet, good luck fellow Bax Axers. Well, in any case, I had issues with audio...the system profiler said that no audio was installed after adding patch. Let me know what needs to be done with 10.5.2 as far as testing goes. I have literally NOTHING on my hard drive, so I can easily get rid of it all Also, I'll take any advise anybody has on the audio patching... joneSi Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76014-guide-software-complete-intel-bad-axe-2-walkthrough-with-software/page/22/#findComment-618693 Share on other sites
weaksauce12
1. It says you dont have technical knowledge to do it. But as someone who is familiar with the multiple OS booting I would think it wouldnt be that hard... but now I am left with having to boot from the (Ultimate Boot CD) UBCD because my boot sector is messed up due to this guide. Do a low-level format of the drive to wipe out the MBR. 2. It says to run a memtest86+ over night on some CD that i dont know where it came from, so I didnt know how to do that. Memtest86+ is a special bootable-disc program that runs memory tests on your RAM to ensure it is good and without errors. One of the biggest problems with new computer builds is RAM problems, which can create a variety of errors. Using Memtest86+ will tell you if you RAM is good or not. 3. It says to Disable ACPI, but it doesnt tell you how. And also the Marvell Controller and where do i get the BIOS image to burn? I don't have the BIOS settings handy at the moment, but I'll provide more detailed instructions on where to go in the menu system in Rev.2 of my Guide, being released this week. The BIOS image link is posted in the first post of this thread. 4. It also tells you to apply a Patch in Tiger, how the heck do you do that when you cant just double click on a file and it does it? I am not the creator of BrazilMac - you have to read the instructions that came with his script. Hackintosh is not a point-and-click solution (yet). 5. How do you format a USB stick? In Disk Utility, format it to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", which is HSF+. If you need step-by-step directions, do this: 1. Open Spotlight (the Magnifier glass icon in the top right corner) 2. Type in "Disk Utility" and click on the app that appears 3. Select your USB memory stick 4. Click on the "Erase" tab 5. Select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" 6. Name the memory stick "PATCHER" (all caps) 7. Click the "Erase..." button Now for the problems not related to the install guide... Since I assume this is your first time installing Hackintosh, I would suggest skipping the dual-boot option for now, i.e. make sure it works as my guide suggests first. As for your hard drive, do a low-level format on it in order to wipe out the MBR completely. If you have a Windows disc lying around, you can use that to erase and format the hard drive to NTFS, which Leopard will see and be able to format. Has this computer been used to run any other operating systems before? If not, install Windows to see if it functions normally. You might also want to try iATKOS or Kalyway 10.5.1 instead of using my guide. So other than the awful tutorial, how do i restore my computer to where it will boot normally?! I've cut you some slack this time and answered your questions because I understand how frustrating OSx86 can be, but I would suggest that you change your attitude if you want my help in the future. I write this guide in my spare time and maintain this thread because I enjoy it. If you notice that when other people have a problem, they don't post about how crappy my guide is - they ask for help politely and myself and others work with them to fix it. I'm not a Hackintosh expert by any means; in fact, I posted this guide because I had a hard time figuring out the basics and figured that other BA2 users could use a step in the right direction. As one person I can only fix so many problems. So with those things in mind, please read this article before replying again to my thread: http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html While I can appreciate your predicament, you have negatively posted in my thread without so much as even bothering to learn how to format a USB memory stick in OS X. I don't mind holding your hand and walking you through it if you ask nicely. Consider this a break...be wiser about posting in the future. Thank you. Sorry for the delay everyone, this is like the eternal update, haha. I'm glad I waited though, it will be nice for 10.5.2!
