I bought a cheap laptop from curry's to use as a second machine when I threw my ageing desktop away.

When I got it home, I plopped the windows vista home disk in the bin and installed Ubuntu Feisty, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get Wifi working so I didn't bother with it much after that.

Since I hardly ever used the thing, I thought I'd have a go at making it into a hackintosh, as I had always enjoyed using my friends Mac.

The machine is pretty much a no namer, an E- System 3090.

Unfortunately, information about this laptop is thin on the ground to say the least, but lspci in Linux gave me this:

06:05.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)

It has a 1.6GHz intel processor with SSE2, and 512Mb RAM. Hard drive is 40Gb.

When I installed OS X 10.4.6, I had no Wifi and no sound. Everything else seems to work perfectly, USB ports, ethernet port (I can connect to the net) display works good and from what I can gather, 3D acceleration is functioning.

I got the sound sorted out by using the conexant HD audio package, so it seems that the only thing preventing me from using my new 'Mac' as an everyday internet browsing machine is the lack of Wifi.

After spending nearly a whole day trying to get the damn thing working and receiving no replies to my question on this forum, I assumed that the Wifi card is a no- hoper and bought a USB dongle off ebay, which I'm going to try mounting inside the laptop case.

It cost under £10 and the seller asserts that it works as an airport with no messing around.
