Howdy everybody!

Here is a new patch for Leopard, as promised just a little late.

This PPF must be applied to a freshly BrazilMac patched DVD image. What you'll have afterwards is a DVD that will boot on the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA and the Dell E520. After the installation you'll have to post-patch, so it will be good to have the BrazilMac package. Yes, post-patching sucks. That's why this will hopefully be superseded by v3.1 ASAP that won't require any post patch. I've had this for over a month, but I've waited in hopes I could get the post-patching out of the way. No success yet, sorry.

So, the 775Dual-VSTA. Everything you're accustomed to driver wise. Everything works just perfect for me, and that's the only box I can test on. To get the full audio after the install you might have to delete AppleAzaliaAudio to let AppleHDA load. Other than that, its golden.

The E520 boots with AHCI, that means RAID should be on. Now, I read that some people were having trouble with AHCI, this patch doesn't have any trouble that I'm aware of. I don't know if the fixes I applied are unique but I do know that it functions perfectly on ICH8R with AHCI ALL PORTS. So, take that for what you will. This computer still doesn't have network or integrated video, though the video might come sometime.

You can find this at the bay. I probably won't work on/release v3.1 if Uphuck's iATKOS comes along and blows everybody out of the water. Especially the EFI thing, that will be sweet. However, Uphuck v1.4 r3 never booted on my ASRock 775Dual-VSTA. So, if that comes out and it still don't work then will see.

Have fun, please seed, and again my apologies for the post-patching.

P.S. In case any were wondering, the older/different files needed to get a BrazilMac patch to work on the 775Dual, in addition to what is done in the patch, are:

IOPCIFamily.kext

AppleACPIplatform.kext

IOACPIFamily.kext

AppleAPIC.kext

For my config at least, I tried adding them all independently. These four were the minimum requirements. It was a pretty long process to burn all those attempts, but I think thats what you need.

Ok, first step: obtain Leopard DVD image. I would recommend buying it in the store. That is what I did. I think that some software is overpriced, but I think that Apple's OS X is a great piece of software and is priced fairly. If I didn't I wouldn't be trying to hack it onto hardware it wasn't created for.

Once you get the image download the BrazilMac patcher. Patch the disc as outlined in the patcher. It is also possible to find an image of this patched installer at certain sites.

Apply the PPF to the output of the BrazilMac patcher.

Install.

Post-patch as outlined by the BrazilMac patcher.

That's it.

As for the 4Core, I don't know. I never know for sure because I don't own the board. However, what should theoretically happen according to what has in the past that everything will work except SATA will not operate at full speed until you edit VIAATA so as to enable the UDMA. I've asked for a patched kext from people with this board in the past so that I can include fully functionality when I do these things, but I haven't received anything yet.

My patches aren't designed to support any/all peripherals. I try to include NVInject because its the universal solution for nVidia and I have nVidia cards, but I don't focus on specific cards. Most likely you'll get a video signal during the install and will either have QE/CI after or have to patch after the install.

Hmm... I don't know. Nobody told me about it. However the name is the same, it should be around six megabytes hopefully. You can give it a try I guess. Anyway, I'm seeding on the bay again.

Thanks guys,

Stevo

P.S. I got the postflight thing worked out. When I get back to college after the holiday I'll see what I can do about posting a version that doesn't require a post-patch.

I used your patch files from tiger to patch brazilmac installation disk and they seemed to work.. I already installed leopard into my computer. Is it possible for you to upload the files ( kexts) also so I can just overwrite the files in my installation. or does the ppf includes individual files also?..

They are the same files, there is nothing new here. If you have Leopard running then you have everything necessary to patch the DVDs. I doubt that there will ever be any advancements for this board given the fact that everything works and most of the chipsets are VIA, which Apple shouldn't have a reason to use; I guess the rumored tablet notebook could, but its all Intel these days.

Anyway, I got things straightened out I think with the DVD. However, I just saw on Uphuck's site that they will be releasing their disc later this week. So I'll see if it installs properly with our board, and if not I'll try to patch it. They are pretty good about fixing things, seeing my patch around and the email I sent them should tell them that there is something to be fixed. They always have more goodies, so I'd rather use their disc.

Also, as far as I know this board will not be a candidate for PC EFI, at least currently. Netkas updates the thing about twice a day, he is a mad man, so who knows where it could end up. It seems to require Intel chipsets as well as newer processors, currently I can't test the thing, which is depressing.

Anywho, that's the status.

Hi,

So... I guess I should assume its working absolutely perfectly for everybody? Good to know.

i did not post so often here, but now I guess it's the right time for it. First of all, great work Stevo. But it doesn't work for me at least.

I used my original Leopard DVD and applied this Brazil patch. Afterwards, I applied your PPF without major problems.

But, my AsRock crashes right during the boot process. I have the very same symptons while trying to update my working 10.4.8 JaS version. I suspect the kernel, but have honestly not really a clue what it really is :censored2:

My system specs are:

AsRock 775Dual-VSTA

ATI 1950Pro (PCIe)

1GB DDR-RAM (DDR400)

320GB SATA

and some minor not so important stuff mainly attached via USB

Could it happen to have something to do with the BIOS version? I'm currently using V3.00a.

Or does the installation need some special BIOS setup? Would be great if you could provide me your BIOS version and setup for comparing them.

Greatings,

Alien

Could someone please tell me how to apply the PPF?

I understand that you use a utility like Path-O-Matic. But everything I found looks like it's Windows .exe files. I saw mentions of a command line utility called applyppf but I can't find that anywhere. I found something else but it was for PPC platforms and I've only got Intel stuff (a real Mac Mini and assorted PCs).

Thanks in advance. I really need to try this patch!

Hey Stevo,

Thanks for this - I've been trying to patch a Brazilmac Leopard image that I found online but so far no luck.

I get an EBIOS_Read error after it installs Maxxuss AC97. Before everyone jumps on the 'bad burn' bandwagon, I re-burned the image and same thing.

I then used my Tiger Disk Utility to look at the ISO image and it said there was a problem with the image. Tried to get Disk Utility to fix the image but it couldn't.

So my question is, what can I do to get the PPF to patch the ISO correctly? (I've also patched the virgin ISO twice but the same result)

If I can get the ISO patched, I can give some feedback on my 4CoreDual-VSTA.

Thanks,

Tom

Ok, in order of being asked...

HPET is a feature that is largely dependent on your CPU and what it is capable of. There are some instances where it can be enabled/disabled by the motherboard.

Applying the PPF patch is done with PPF-o-matic. It is an application, either GUI or CLI, that is available for OS X, linux, and Windows. It was originally designed to be used with patching game dumps, so if you search for a download site you'll find it associated with games. You can download it off webpages or there are some torrents that have it included with the PPF. I haven't included the program with the last two, but I figure that I probably should from now on because there are always new people that don't know where to get it. So, thats that.

My guess is that you have a flawed download of the virgin Brazilmac patch. Is there a way you can check the MD5 sum with what it was supposed to be from the download?

Stevo

Remember, if iATKOS ever does actually come out (not much more of "the end of the week" left) then this will be out of date, one way or another.

Well although I normally would defer to you on this (much more experience and all), I tried using the virgin ISO to install with (using -v) and it trundles along for 5 minutes or so before rebooting the computer.

The patched version doesn't even go for 1/2 minute before it locks up with the EBIOS Read Error. Looking at both ISO's with my Tiger Disk Utility, the patched ISO image complains about an Invalid Node Structure whereas the virgin ISO image passes fine.

I'm kinda stumped cause the PPF-o_matic is about as easy as falling down.

Of course, I patched this in the 'evil' WinXP because I couldn't find an OSX version to try. (any links??)

Thanks for the quick reply,

Tom

P.S. I'll try and verify the MD5

I'm not questioning what you did with the ISO after you downloaded it, I think its a question of whether it downloaded correctly in the first place and whether it was truly the correct ISO to be downloading in the first place (ie. if the person made some extra modifications but only labeled it as the BrazilMac patch that would through off the ppf patching process) Thats why I recommended starting with an original leopard ISO image. I know that either costs money or is a larger download, but at least that way we are all starting from the same binary set of data. When uphuck comes out then we'll have another standard set of data to start with.

Stevo

Ahhhhh gotcha - it just seemed curious that (virgin) one ran so much longer before crashing but I guess if I understood what actually happened in the PPF process it would make sense.

Shouldn't Disk Utility see the output of the PPF process as a good image though?

Could you point me at a link so that I might learn how to do this manually?

I know ( I think) that the SSE3 kernel has to be replaced with a no-HPET version but would that be enough to get things going and then I could install packages from my existing Tiger partition? Or am I way out in left-field?

Thanks for your patience,

Tom
