Thelis Posted February 7, 2008 Share Posted February 7, 2008 Ok, so I have dloaded the iAtkos r2 and burned it with nero to a DVD. I popped it in, and booted up. Got the "still waiting for root device" when I booted with -v, and I get the no smoking sign above the apple if I boot without the -v. I am running eVGA 680i E6600 @ 3.8ghz SATA Baraccuda HDD SATA Lite-on DVD-R drive. 2GB corsair 1066mhz RAM. 8800GTS 640MB Vram. I tried booting with cpus=1, xbit disabled, enabled... no dice. It will just stop receiving data eventually while downloading torrents. It doesn't freeze or anything the internet just doesnt work. Anyone have any ideas? It will just stop receiving data eventually while downloading torrents. It doesn't freeze or anything the internet just doesnt work. Anyone have any ideas? The golden kernel breaks network connectivity. So, if you want to continue using the realtek card, you have to drop back to cpus=1. I had the same issue and spent like 5 hours figuring out why it happened. Hopefully I have saved you that trouble lol. The specific issue I had was that the network would work for an unspecified amount of time after a reboot, but then would randomly drop until the next reboot (sometimes 5min after boot, sometimes 20min, sometimes 30 seconds). Very frustrating. On another note. Could somebody (preferrably with an E6600 C2D) please post their xbench scores? Even with the nvHPET kernel (both cores), my CPU gets like 105, and when I add in memory it gets to 130. It feels very sluggish, as if I'm still running on one core. I m using the iatkos with so called gold kernel and it has nth to do w breaking anyth I m using an rtl 8139 based NIC and downloaded a lot of stuff nth so far... I will not post the patch for r2 iatkos bcos since too Many pep doing the procedure wrong I decided to not post it anymore and instead in 1-2days u ok be patched DVD that will work in most machines... I will write a super noob guide as so Many people cannot do a simple patch and fix a permission. so hopefully I will add all the does and donts in it. But I m sure there will be some of u will not able to read or won't follow instructions... All u need is a bit of patientce and u will have the first nforce friendly DVD...I ll post some xbench scores tomorrow for the results of nforce DVD so u can check how it works n performs... Also, for some reason the old golden kernel breaks my network connectivity, it works sometimes but then fails after a few minutes usually. Maybe you are lucky, or I am unlucky I know of a few other people that have had the same issue. Thanks for your work on getting us an nforce friendly DVD. Would love to hear what u did, thanks. for the network issue, i m only aware of nforce lan having this trouble, and not caused by kernel, but nic driver itself, something is wrong in it, and the original maker of the driver didnt fix it later... so i gave up on it, and got myself a sweex lc001 rtl8139 based nic 10$... @ele: also keep in mind that not all the rtl 8139 based nics use the same way to access and use the chip the same as another brand... same with all 680i chipset works differently on different mobos... so it s rite to say i m lucky, same as hpet kernel with you... i think u got my point... @mui: for the md5, check what program you are using to check the md5!!! bcoz majority of the md5 calculator programs do not work right!!!! use the program called accuhash, for wrong calculation reasons, i had to d/l some iso files 4-5 times although i was d/l right one, stupid calculator was wrong until i got the right one... accuhash, works fine and calculates ok... normal calculation of iso's should take about 30 secs... not 5-10 secs... How can i solve it? i think it is still problem with sata drives, bcoz not all the sata drives are working correctly... also, i dont know if u read it correctly, ppf helps boot... but it doesnt install the drivers... u have to install the drivers manually, yet, bcoz we re working on getting ppf drivers to installer as an option... until then u have to do it manully... bcoz once install finishes there is no nforce ata, and apple pc generic driver kicks in and limits your hdd size and speed as pio mode limited to 128 gb, meaning if u installed osx in a partition in bigger than 128 gb and/or not he first part of the hdd... it will not find the root... coz access will be limited... grab the nforceata by medevil, from hardware/driver section... kernel from the dvd's root... applenforceata needs to be placed under /system/library/extensions and needs permission fix as well... mach_kernel from the root of the dvd to root of your leo partition... although doesnt need permission fix it is better to do it... =============================================== chown -R 0:0 /mach_kernel chmod -R 644 /mach_kernel =============================================== chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleNForceATA.kext chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleNForceATA.kext =============================================== i hate to write this whole thing as too many (noob) people dont know it, in fact many of the very basic must-know stuffs are not learned, prior to installing something... i m sure many people do not learn what to do in terminal to fix permissions, although they are thousands of times written everywhere... please read some of the must-know basic stuffs and instructions... =========================== also wait for the new pff or r3 ppf which will add install options into the dvd which will make this dvd the only nforce friendly dvd but one thing u should all understand is that nforce chipset is always picky, same chipset in different mobo acts different... and nforceata kext by medevil doesnt work on all sata drives correctly and perfect for everyone...yet... i am using pata drive and have no issue... i hope it hints u... also read nforceata's topic by medevil... for sata owners of sata drives http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=77071 this is the title so it may help many of you, with problems, and in fact help medevil get a solution maybe... tenazrael Posted February 9, 2008 Share Posted February 9, 2008 I swear.. if you have an EVGA 680i board, its impossible to get the Mac OS running. Its killing me.... Here is what I have done so far. I tried following .netrolller's guide, got to the part on doing the boot fix, and then restarted the machine, removed the dvd, and my mobo bios loads up, it first does a check to see if there is a cd/dvd in the drive to boot from (but there isn't) and then it tries to boot from the hard drive... or I'm assuming it does because the HD light is a nice bright blue likes it thinking but it goes nowhere. So I tried following Solotitan's & Weekender's guide. Figure if I stick in the Jas 10.4.8 DVD and create a bootable partition, on which to install the TOH RC2 10.5, then I should be able to skip .netroller's guide for the bootfix and simply proceed to upgrading to 10.5.1, etc. So I stuck in the Jas 10.4.8 dvd, at boot prompt, put in -x -v and hit enter and halfway through the boot process I see this error Couldn't allow class IOUSBUserClientInit Still waiting for root device Still waiting for root device ... etc. Argh... I'm pretty sure I have some mobo setting that is killing me, but if anyone can help me who has a evga 680i board or knows what those error messages mean... please ... help me....
