[HowTo] Fast Spotlight searches WITH NTFS partitions mounted

1 post in this topic

As many of you know, if you have a NTFS parition mounted, Spotlight will have to manually search through the partition, even if the result is on your HFS+/OSX partition. You can get fast searches, but you'll have to unmount your NTFS volume. Here's a way I've found lets you do both.

You'll need to do the 2 steps quickly.

1. Type something into the spotlight search box.

2. Drag the NTFS partition to the trash, to eject it. If you get the error that "the volume cannot be ejected." it will have worked.

2a. If you have more than one NTFS partition, you'll need to repeat steps 1 & 2 for each one.

Test it by viewing your NTFS partition whilst doing a Spotlight search. If it still takes a long time, try again.
