Spingk
This is how I installed OSX. 1. Downloaded Deadmoo's tiger image 2. Opened VMware and booted the image 3. Changed the password in single user mode 4. Installed Darwin 8.0.1 in vmware onto a physical hard drive to format it to HFS+. 5. Booted the image and logged in. 6. Ran disk utility. 7. Ran the restore feature in disk utility. 8. After restoring the image to the physical hard drive I ran the fix permisions feature. Now I was told to run some commands in single user mode. But... I boot into it and get this: Firewire (OHCI) TI ID 8024 PCI now active, GUID 000fea0000307c22; max speed s400 Still Waiting For Root Device Any ideas as to how to fix this? Any help is apreciated. -Spingk Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/675-still-waiting-for-root-device/ Share on other sites

asdorel
are you using P-ATA drive? i encountered this problem too, but make that drive MASTER solved it <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep, it's p-ata. I put it in primary master, unplugged the dvd rom drive, and it still isn't working. Funny. asdorel
Anyways, could this error occur because I am using a partition for osx and not a seperate hd? Would I need to perhaps modify the partition somehow? Spingk
I'm using an IDE drive in primary IDE master, and I'm using the whole drive. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/675-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-4279 Share on other sites
asdorel
PEOPLE, I got it to work: Add this to the boot commands: "rd=disk0s1" along with -v It should not give the root device error anymore. If it doesn't work, try using disk0s2 or disk1s1 and such. I now get the kdp error, but I am still happy as the root device problem is gone. EDIT: I also have the hd in primary master, and have disabled the cdrom drive. So if the command doesnt do anything to you, try also to put the hd in primary master and disable (unplug from the motherboard) the cd drive Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/675-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-4319 Share on other sites
asdorel
If it still doesn't work, try replacing IOATAFAMILY.kext in osx partition with the same file in the darwin cd. Spingk
my drive corupted again, but before it did I tried rd=disk1s0 -s and it didn't work. So I'll reinstall and try the IOATAFAMILY.kext tomorrow. Spingk
Update: I am copying IOATAFamily.kext over now. Edit: Didn't work, I'm going to try in VMWare. Edit2: Darwin works in VMWare! I ran the commands but now I can't boot natively. It has the apple logo and the spinning disk. But then a circle with a line through it apears around the stem of the apple.
