optimusp
Hi everyone, I'm building a new budget system from the ground up. Here is the hardware I plan on using: Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6300 Optical: LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model LH-20A1L-05 HD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive Video: EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Cardl Ram: ( 4gigs of this ) Transcend JETRAM 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model JM2GDDR2-8K With a new case and power supply, the total comes to $630. Not bad. I have two questions: 1. Is there a better motherboard that I could use? By better, I mean more willing to work straight out of the box. 2. What distro should I install? Thanks everyone! Findibulator
Well, the HCL seems to show that your hardware looks OK. There are never any guarantees, but there's only way to find out for sure.... optimusp
Well, I've purchased everything through newegg. I went with the E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz instead of the E6300 because they're the same price and the E6550 has a faster fsb and more L2 cache. The grand total with shipping came to $750 USD. I could have saved another $150 had I went with a e4xxx cpu, 2 gigs of ram (instead of 4) and non-expedited shipping. But I'm impatient. I chose overnight shipping. So it should be here tomorrow or wednesday. I'll do a full follow up report.
