Filipe Tolhuizen
Both JAS and Uphuck releases failed to boot on my machine, though it seemed 100% compatible (both stuck on the loginwindow.app, and uphuck on MacFUSE sometimes). My system is: Pentium 4 HT 3.4Ghz 550 (SSE2/SSE3) ASUS P5AD2E-Premium 1GB RAM Nvidia GeForce 6800 256MB PCI-Expressx16 3x 200GB SATA Seagate and 1x 250GB SATA Seagate LG DVD Writer HP CD-Writer Plus 8100 What from above could be incompatible? ~pcwiz
First of all, install loginwindow 10.4.4 from your install disc, its under Patches. Boot OS X in verbose mode and see what errors you get. Filipe Tolhuizen
With or without loginwindow from 10.4.4 it freezes when loginwindow.app is initiating. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65230-help/#findComment-462679 Share on other sites
Filipe Tolhuizen
Anyone? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65230-help/#findComment-463199 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Install with just the Essential software/Main system and CPU patch if required and nothing else and see if you get the error. Filipe Tolhuizen
Tried it, but same error. PS.: I read that my processor in 10.4.3 needed a NoNX kernel to work, but no reports on further versions. Would I still need this? I'm not getting Kernel Panics, just the freeze with loginwindow.app Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65230-help/#findComment-463266 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
I see a possible problem. Your GeForce 6800 is not compatible with OS X so that may explain your problem but the thing is, usually even if your card isn't compatible, it won't stop OS X from booting... I really don't know what it could be. Here are 2 things you should try: Go into the F8 boot prompt and enter this: cpus=1 I don't expect it to help much because you don't have a dual core CPU. Also try typing this at the boot prompt: platform=X86PC One thing I see is that you have Hyper Threading. Some people have gotten OS X to work by disabling Hyper Threading. Filipe Tolhuizen
hmm, seems to make sense since hyper-threading is recognized as a dual core CPU when actually it isn't. I'll try and see what happens. About the GeForce 6800, both Natit and Titan recognized it. . . . . Just got back... thanks for the tips but it still freezes at the same point. Anything else I could try? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65230-help/#findComment-463498 Share on other sites
Filipe Tolhuizen
Or just incompatibility and it won't run at all? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65230-help/#findComment-463755 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Even though the card is recognized it doesn't mean its fully supported... It could just be overall compatibility problems...Maybe try an older ISO like the JaS 10.4.7 Repack or even an old Myzar release. linux4guru
1. Were you able to boot into the OS after install....? If not, I think the problem is... 2. On the Uphuck install DVD, the disk utility - I bet your drive is not using the MBR option. If that is the case, goto partition and select the options button; change it to MBR and partition the drive again. It will do the format for you then go throught your install again. Note: the Uphuck 1.4i r3 I have does not have the mail package, I had to install that from another version from the Jas 10.4.8 DVD plus some other util. My next test is to try the power management from the Jas 10.4.8 since it was working for me on that version. Good luck! Filipe Tolhuizen
I'm sorry, but what would MBR be? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65230-help/#findComment-465275 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
MBR is the Master Boot Record option in Disk Utility. It installs the Darwin bootloader onto your HD Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65230-help/#findComment-465300 Share on other sites
Filipe Tolhuizen
Then I'm sure I did this, because it always loads Darwin first. The strange thing is that both versions (uphuck and JAS) lock up at the same point. Filipe Tolhuizen
I tried booting in Single User mode, but it locked up in a different stage, saying that the return of something -u should be 512. I'll post the full message when I get a chance. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65230-help/#findComment-466343 Share on other sites
