Z053921
Okay, I installed OSx86 some days ago. Here's what I did: * Checked hardware compatibility list. My hardware seems to be so unknown... It's 5 years old after all. Latests Linux & Beryl seem to work on it, so it isn't that outdated. * Checked SSE2 and SSE3 support. My processor only supports SSE2. * Downloaded and installed Uphuck. No problems, installed a patch for the loginwindow to support sse2 at the same time. * I had some trouble with a thermal kext. Patched it out problemless. * Now I get a freeze whenever it boots. I just get the apple logo & a spinning progress indicator. But there hasn't progressed anything during then. I booted in verbose: hi mem tramps at 0xffe00000 PAE enabled LPC Bridge Vendor ID 0x8086, Device ID 0x248c PM-Timer port 0x8 Readouts from PM-Timer Read1 0x0, Read2 0x0 enabling INTEL features standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us vm_page_bootstrap: 126313 free pages mig_table_max_displ = 71 HTT: 1 core per package; 1 logical cpu per package Local APIC discovered and enabled Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 opcodes APCI CA 20060421 PASSED! ...maximum protection commpage set ALL enabling SSE3 emulation Copyright (c) 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993 The Regents of the University of California. I've searched all over the net, but this problem doesn't seem to be common. (Unlike the thermal ext). Maybe i just need to patch something? If you need hardware info, just ask! (I've got a knoppix cd). Please don't treat me like someone that only knows how to type text in MS Word and that even can't print that text. I've been using Linux & Unix for years. I'm just new to the mac world. So I'm not affraid of terminals... Does anyone know what to do? - SeySayux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/ Share on other sites
~pcwiz
That error is easy to solve. Install the 10.4.8.ACPIManagement option from your install disc (Its under Patches). Z053921
Going to try this asap, then i'll report. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-460474 Share on other sites
Z053921
I don't have that patch. Using latest version of Uphuck. How can I manually patch this? (I've got a knoppix dvd) - SeySayux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-460490 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Are you using Uphuck 1.4iR3? The patch is on that DVD. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-460891 Share on other sites
Z053921
I'm using r2. I'm now downloading JaS. Is in on the JaS dvd? (I get rosetta with jas anyway, so...). PS. I couldn't access "the usual place". But now it seems to work for me... and it seems that uphuck r3 has rosetta... - SeySayux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-461247 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Oh SORRY. I gave you the wrong option name. Boot up from your R2 disc, in the installation options, deselect everything. Now under Patches, there should be an option called "AppleACPIPlatform.kext 10.4.8". Check that option and install! Z053921
I would have noticed it if there was something similar to it. But there wasn't. There where only 3 patches, one of them had to do with thermal stuff. But i'm going to look again anyways... PS. Is it on the JaS DVD or isn't it? I'm going to install JaS i think... - SeySayux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-461952 Share on other sites
Z053921
I've got a loginwindow, thermal, cpupowermanagement & verbose boot patch. but no apci patch..... however, thermal says something about apci thermal kext... - SeySayux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-462124 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Thats funny...its on my Uphuck 1.4iR3 disc. Its also on the Uphuck 1.3 disc but its not on the JaS disc. See this picture of the Uphuck 1.3 menu selection. See the option under Patches? http://www.uphuck.com/Uphuck%20OSX86%20Dev...Picture_1-1.png I guess its not on your disc, though thats highly unusual. Get a Uphuck 1.4iR3 disc or a Uphuck 1.3 Universal disc and install the patch. pcwiz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-462556 Share on other sites
Z053921
Can I use an uphuck patch on a JaS installation? Because JaS comes with more software (uphuck seems to be a compacter install, so...). If so, I'll download both JaS and uphuck... - SeySayux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-462706 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Oh! You have JaS? If you install JaS 10.4.8 it should work fine without any patches! The error is only because of the Uphuck install. So download JaS and install it...you probably won't get the error. Z053921
Oh! You have JaS? If you install JaS 10.4.8 it should work fine without any patches! The error is only because of the Uphuck install. So download JaS and install it...you probably won't get the error. ... I'm speechless.... ... couldn't you have told me that before I downloaded half of the new uphuck release (about 1GB bandwidth, you know, in bittorent you'll have to upload, too.) Anyways, thanks for the info, I'm going to continue downloading JaS. - SeySayux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-463500 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
I'm sorry...Wasn't thinking right...Sorry I wasted your time Continue downloading JaS and install that when its done. That buffers error you are getting is a bug in the 10.4.9 AppleACPIManagement.kext file and it is usually always solved by using a 10.4.8 version. Since the JaS DVD is 10.4.8, it should work. Z053921
Everyone can make a mistake... But if I didn't ask this question, I didn't knew it would be solved with a JaS DVD. And it has more on it anyways, so I'm happy to have a more complete osx86 install now - SeySayux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-464336 Share on other sites

Z053921
Yes! Woohoo! But i've still some troubles with my network card (see my post in hardware section) Thank you very much! - SeySayux PS. that dock is sooo cool. (although, if you don't count parabolic, avant window navigator is better). For anyone owning os x (whether it is on a real mac or osx86), do not kiss your screen with lipstick on! *cleans screen again* Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64931-freeze-on-boot/#findComment-465106 Share on other sites
