The boot manager for Windows Vista seems to replace the MBR, so that trying to boot from the OS X partition results in "HFS+ Partition Error." I used fdisk from within OS X to rewrite the MBR, but now Vista won't boot up because osload.exe comes across some sort of error. After doing some research, it seems that the solution is to install a bootloader such as Lilo or grub. Is there any way I can do that from within OS X for Intel?

I am infact trying to Dual boot vista and OSx86 too

I'm using Build 5270 and x86 10.4.1(I'm getting 10.4.3 soon)

But I can't seem to be able to install WinGRUb on Vista...Could someone help get it to work?? So far the only way to access both OS's is to sent one partition or another active.

no offense, but i think i speak for many when i say; who wants to spend a minimum of 200 bucks just for a lil tryout copy of vista, when they expire soon after? I signed up for be an official beta tester, however, it says I have to 'await invitation to try future Vista beta releases', or something of that nature.

Anyways, good old 5308 works nicely w/ a cracked activation key.

to make Vista Recognized by Acronis :

What you need :

- a CD of Windows XP or 2000 (xp is the fastest one for the operation !)

- Vista DVD

- Acronis Disk Director W/ os selector

How to :

1\ start your computer like if you are installing XP (boot on the CD, and start the install)

2\ When the installer asks you for partitions, install it on your future Vista partition. format that partition.

3\ Wait for the first part of the installer to finish, and once it has rebooted, start your installation of Vista

4\ DO NOT DELETE THE PARTITION WHERE YOU PREVIOUSLY Installed the first part of XP... just install over it !

5\ Vista Installed, install Acronis OS Selector.

Vista should now be recognized by OS selector ...

Why it wasn't recognized ?

Vista's boot manager doesn't create anymore the boot.ini and the bootsector.bin files that are needed by OS Selector. Installing the first part of XP forces Vista to have a "compatibility" with an earlier OS ... and so it creates the files that are needed !

After all that stuff, you can modify the booting options of Vista to not show up the boot menu ...

Beta 2 will be publicly be released next week as it was handed out on DVD at WinHec 2006. Also beta testing via membership and Microsoft Connect http://connect.microsoft.com/ as a beta tester were available at one time. There has also been special invitations via a partnership Microsoft and Culminis provided for Vista beta testing. http://microsoft.order-4.com/windowsvistabeta/

Thanks mate, that worked great...was real buggered when vista disappeared and osx gave me an hfs+ error after the first attempt at a dual boot.
