So, anybody managed to get hotplug work on SATA in your hackintosh? The whole information on SATA/eSATA is a total mess :)

Currently, 10.4.8 JaS, 8.8.1 kernel, ICH7DH southbridge (Asus P5LD2-VM DH) booting just fine in AHCI mode, but: when I plug-in a drive into the hotswap rack, it powers up but doesn't get even seen by the system. When I restart with the drive still inside, it gets recognised well. Hmm... Tried few different SATA drives, no change. Edited IOAHCIFamily kexts "Physical interconnect location" from "Internal" to "External", all I got was cosmetic change of the drive icons :(

Read the forums all over and again, couldn't find much definite answer.

Please help, anybody?

Thanks, F

hotplug express card 2 port sata macbook pro compatible , looking for

first thing, like to get that working for the laptop,

since USB is slow, firewire 400 better, firewire 800 ok,

but you'd need a firewire 800, including a port or card on the laptop,

and an expensive enclosure,.... after that, you'd need also a card and cable for the desktop,

so yes, we'd need hotplug for sata/esata ,

I've tried with 2 different mobo's , no chance,

do have mobile rackmount, but needs reboot,...

thinking, that an pci express, addon card, with 2 esata ports, with a silicon chipset,

might be the ticket, if the drivers are bound into the kernel, and the pci card can send in interupt,

it should make it available, while the ICH7, ICH8, etc, in the mobo, are buildin, and using a the kernel kext only,

anybody with a mac pro with an esata 2 port card has it working ? some of the 4 port cards are wicked expensive,...

but than again, I got 2.3TB and to have everything on firewire 800, be expensive,....

first I'd want my laptop to have firewire 800, then 2 port sata,

might want to get an pci express , cardbus adapter for the desktop, for testing, so I don't have to reinvent the wheel,...

guess at some point , and macbook pro, and mac pro system will do, about 8k,.... outch,...

Hurray! hotplug sata works ! sil3132

just got an Rosewill RC-605 2-port esata card,

has an sil3132 chipset, and rosewill has mac drivers.

tested with esata to sat drive, works, eject, replug,...

also got an external OWC quad interface external enclosure,....

works too.

next, be looking for an pci-express sil chipset, esata card for my desktop

and an express card firewire 800 card ,

of course , once I get everything working, be replacing it with real apple hardware,...

oh, ... won't be able to boot of the expresscard, guess that's ok for now.

so let me know, about working pci express esata cards

and still have to figure out backup software, for HFS and NTFS

tried copycatX, but always give volume not big enough error,

on a 80gb partition with 15gb installed, can't backup to 60gb space left,...

express card firewire 800 , hotplug works !

just got my IEEE 1394B 800 from APIOTEK

works like a charm, have not done any benchmarking .....

next, PCI express Esata card 2-port, anybody ?

any reasonable priced 4-port cards ?

  • 2 months later...

eSATA PCI Express cards from Silicon Image (Sil 3132) only works on 32 bits archs. I've got one (mine is a Lacie) and it's unfortunatly not working on Leopard. I guess those who made it work just have Tiger.

If anyone knows where to find the correct driver for 10.5.x, just post it down.
