luigito
Hi, thank you for helping me out. I am going to buy a new mac book pro but cant decide which hard drive to choose. I am going to use the mac to edit photos often, I will most likely be using aperture but this is only a hobby not a career. I will also download movies and music as well as regular computer use such as school work. I am looking at the 200 gig hard drive @ 4200 rpm, and the 160 gig @7200 rpm. Which one would any of you choose based on what i said i will be using my mac for. Also, will i see a big difference in hard drive speed between these two. Thanks so much Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61344-hard-drive-help/ Share on other sites
Davejb
If it were me, I'd get the higher RPM drive for the performance and get an external firewire for data storage. R2k.
take this 160 gig @7200 rpm you will see big difference in os booting,hd searching ... 40 gb are to so big,but they are not so little too,you can buy external WD 250 GB for about 100 euros. i think that 4200 rpm does not exist ,and maybe i didn`t heard for that,i only know for 5200 rpm. ~R Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61344-hard-drive-help/#findComment-435361 Share on other sites

vbetts
You only see 4200 in the really cheap laptops, or small laptops, or laptops with a lot of storage, like 500gb and up.
