While Tiger's FR can play any file opened in QT (it uses quicktime player) it seems that Leo's FR can only open iTunes-formatted files. I think your best bet would be to use QTPro to save your AVI movies at QT reference movies. If you don't have QTPro (I strongly recommend purchasing it, it was the best $30 I ever spent) the are applescripts that will wrap your avi/mkv files in the .MOV container.

 

I believe there is one called QTReferenceMovie, but I don't know if i have the name right.
