Hello All,

I am trying to install upchuck 10.4.9 1.4i r3 and it sees my sata drive in disk utility but the install won't. I followed the instructions on how to shrink the volume in Vista and run disk part to make it primary active drive partition. But it still won't recognize. I also tried a combo of Parted Magic and Gparted to create an HFS+ Partition and disk utility still sees it as ms-dos even thought gparted sees it as an hfs+ volume.

I am running a evga Nvidia 680i board, on board nvidia ethernet, realtek audio onboard audio, geforce 8800 gts, and intel core 2 duo 6400.

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks in advance

Dean

The way I've always done it is to just create a blank partition using Partition Magic or whatever tool you have. Then use the Installer Disk Utility to format it. Start Disk Utility and select the partition, then choose Erase. This formats it and makes the partition Active.

Quit Disk Utility and proceed with the install. Your partition should be visible now.

You're doing something that I didn't think was possible (yet): using SATA on an NForce4 mobo. I have the same mobo. I have tried things like install to an IDE HD and then install the NForce4SATA package. This resulted in mounting the SATA HD so I could see the partitions but doing anything hung the system. I'm afraid unless you have some better info that the issue is poor driver support for the SATA HD. OSX86 SATA has been supported since roughly the 10.4.4 days for different chipsets (AFAIK). I think the issue is the NForce4 chipset, and driver support thereof. Please respond to this thread if you have any luck.

By the way I wasn't able to get drivers for the onboard ethernet and had to buy an add-in card. Also I don't BELIEVE that there are drivers that yet support the 8800. I'm on a fully supported 7900. Sound works with the Azalia package.
