bonestonne
well, as i've noted before in places, OSx86 is not a true Apple OS, so the Apple updates that affect the kernel [such as version upgrades] will kill OSx86. the kernel and requirements were modified to run without Apple *certified* hardware. i made the same mistake myself one time...i guess we all come across it at some point in time. best way to get data back is using a linux live CD, or installing OS X on another HDD, and then adding your HDD as a slave and retrieving data. i can't say theres a direct way to actually fix the installation, the kexts may have been mixed up. if you have a chance, try safe mode, and it may work, however its not 100% proven. bonestonne
i'd suggest turning off automatically check for updates...you can manually do it, and download all but the OS updates. Davejb
I made the same mistake, finally found a 10.4.10 update for osx86, search the normal places for 10.4.10 Mac OS X update for hackintosh, it worked for me on uphuck 10.4.9 ir2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60715-i-installed-appl-updates-intel-and-borked-my-system/#findComment-431434 Share on other sites

Updates to the iLife suite typically never cause problems-- at least they never have for me-- but updating iTunes has been known to crash a hackintosh or two. It's best to search the forums before you install any update of any kind; for instance, iTunes 7.3.2 update works fine, but 7.3.3 has crashed a lot of hacks. Maybe I'll start a thread that we can sticky as a "Good updates, Bad updates" list for would-be updaters... Davejb
Just to update in case anyone else wants to know, I applied all updates that were available after the 10.4.10 update (including the security updates) without any obvious issues or problems.
