Okay, I had a working install of Jas 10.4.8, and after lots of tweaks, finally got everything working except sound. So I installed a PCI Firewire card and am attempting to use the M-Audio Firewire 410 interface, but now whenever I start OSX with the interface plugged in and turned on, it shows the message saying that Firewire is working, but then it halts after that, and after 30 seconds or so, it says "Waiting for root device". OS X will boot into safe mode, and still says the firewire interface is working, but the M-Audio driver says the audio interface isn't connected.

Things to note:

- Interface and firewire card work perfectly in Windows

- OS X works perfectly if the firewire card isn't installed, but will only boot into safe mode if it is.

I know that the root device message usually has to do with not finding the hard drive, and I've tried the "rd=disk1s1" and all other possible variations, and that doesn't work. But since it works fine otherwise, I don't understand why the firewire card would cause it to not find the hard drive, unless it's making OSX somehow expect that there would be a Firewire hard drive to boot from? Or maybe it changes the hard drive order or something?

Any help is appreciated.

One more thing to add here. I read in other posts that the Root device issue sometimes has to do with the hard drives being set to "Cable Select", but mine are definitely jumpered for master/slave. Besides that, it's hard to think it's a hard drive issue when it all boots up fine when the firewire card is not installed.
