I'm getting this message

'Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot

device'

I had OS X's boot loader handle the boot up screen but seeming the paritition containing OS X has been formatted I get the above message.

I have two partitions on a single HDD with OS X on one of them and the other handling Windows.

obviously the master boot record has been deleted.

try booting up the windows-cd, and press some f-key to

repair and boot into the recovery console. there simply

use the "fixmbr" command.

alternatively search e.g. "fix mbr windows",

see also: http://www.ntfs.com/mbr-damaged.htm

sorry, i do not understand. first, do you really mean "partition0"?

that wouldn't make sense, because the mbr must be written 'before'

any partition, so you have to write it on harddisk0.

see http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...ons_fixmbr.mspx

then, what do you mean with "dir C:" and "dir D:"?

where are you typing these commands? ms-dos? windows 98? win xp?

recovery console?

To be more precise I selected 'Device\Harddisk0\Partition0' to fixmbr as it is my C:\>Windows\

I tried the 'dir' command on C: and it would say it is unreadable while 'dir' command on C: shows me my files. I'm using these commands under Recovery Console.

Damn Windows. Wish OS X was more prevailent.

I've hooked up the hard disk which I used the fixmbr command on onto another PC and that PC's WinXP Computer MAnagement's DIsk management shows 1 partition as having a NTFS format and the other not having a NTFS.

I tried accessing the partition that says it isnt NTFS and XP prompts me to format it.

You ran the OSX disk utility that hosed your MBR and you are blaming it on Windows? WinXP will not read type AF (HFS+) of OSX partition type although the command console diskpart command can create type AF partition.

I didnt run OS X's Disk Utility. I ran Window's Recovery Console from the Windows XP boot disk and ran 'fixmbr' that housed my Window's MBR and made my C: partition unreadable.

I have 1 HDD that contains C:\>Windows in one partition and the other partition containing OS X. BEfore I shutdown Windows I simply reformatted the partition containing OS X. Before that OS X's boot loader was managing my boot but seeming it was erased by way of reformatting my PC is looking for an OS to find it.

I then followed das' advice on 'fixmbr'. After I specified the device name \Device\Harddisk0\Partition0 my C: drive became unreadable.

C:\>Window\fixmbr \Device\Harddisk0\Partition0

The directory defaulted at 'Windows' so I just added 'fixmbr \Device\Harddisk0\Partition0'

The reason why I wished OS X was more prevailent was because it was easier to set the primary System disk.

i do not get your problem still.

first of all, 'fixmbr \Device\Harddisk0\Partition0'

is, as written, complete nonsense, because the masterbootrecord

has to written BEFORE any partition. it DOES NOT have to do

with ANYTHING on any of the partitions. if this one is fixed,

it simply invokes the bootrecord of the specific partition, namely

the ntfs one. that should work.

and your statement

'I tried the 'dir' command on C: and it would say it is unreadable while 'dir' command on C: shows me my files.'

is a bit confusing. maybe you mean dir D:? but there should be no

D: since there is only one windows-partition?

besides, if you have formatted your OSX partition, naturally

windows cannot access it at all, so

'I tried accessing the partition that says it isnt NTFS and XP prompts me to format it.'

is fully normal. what else would you like to have?

that it unformats the drive and fixes some TPM stuff?

Thanks for answering a question you yourself admit to not understand. My Windows partition is inaccessible and all my data has gone down the drain.
