AdStar
I'm trying to install 10.4.8 on my Dell Inspiron 8500. The install goes smooth as, but then on reboot, video drops out after the grey screen (intro sound plays etc) I was looking over the 10.4.4 guide but the specific link for the vid card howto doesn't work any more. Anyone know what it was/how to get the Nvidia GeForce 4200 Go to work. Cheers Ad

i8500user
try the macvidia site it's been down over the weekend.. and still is.. (both of them) http://www.macvidia.com/http://macvidia.starchaser.org/ Was able to sort this myself..Now if I can only figure out how to up the res from 1024x768... anyone?(my native res is 1680 x 1050) Hi AdStar, Which driver did you use to get it working? Same as what Chickenman used? http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...500&st=300#(Post #309) If so, very interested whether you have the internal LCD screen working. Hi,how did you solve the resolution issue? I'm in same situation after installation - just grey screen ...Is there any way to force to boot with lower resolution ?Thx I had the same problem. What you need is to fall back to VESA: 1. Boot into single user mode press F8 before boot -> "-s -v" for the boot options 2. Root volume to read-write fsck -fy mount -uw / 3. Backup+remove the NVDIA related kexts mkdir /backup mv -R /System/Library/Extensions/NV* /backup/. (if you have natit, or mobility, and any other Nvidia related stuff move it also) 4. Flush the kextcache, so Mac OS X is aware of new kext files rm -r /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache rm -r /System/Library/Extensions.mkext kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/ 5. Reboot shutdown -r now This is what I have running now, waiting for MacVIDIA site to come back up.
slackerboy
Hi, got it to work with jas 10.4.6, on boot u have 1024x768, then install the macvidia driver, got full res (1680x1050), no 3d support. I think this is the only driver that works with this gfx card. Updated system with 10.4.7 and then 10.4.8.
