When I try viewing mpgs in quicktime, the kernel panics. What log can I view to find out what is causing this? I have a feeling it's graphics related lol. It appears to only do this when Quartz Extreme is enabled.

EDIT:

Chipset Intel 865G

Graphics card: Intel Extreme graphics 2 (0x25728086)

OS 10.4.1 + 10.4.3 600mb update.

Intel Celeron 340 @ 2.93ghz

768mb of ram

Thanks :)

Which Graphic Card, wich Version of OS?

I've messed around with this for a while, but I can't find a fix. I think I'll be sure to remove the acceleration drivers when I want to view clips in quicktime and put them back when i'm done. meh.

This forum skin is becoming more and more beautiful by the day.

I'm using 10.4.1 w/ the userland 10.4.3 update.

On that topic, I downloaded the 10.4.3 8f1099 dmg along w/t he patcher, converted it to an iso, but for some reason I find I cannot run the installer w/ any of the three kernel boot options. Machine just restarts after some point. A bit depressing.

Anyhoo.

I did more playing around and found that video plays fine without the graphics acceleration kexts installed. I also found that when I use vlc to play mpegs, they're green in nature (similar to issues others were experiencing with the 855gm graphics chipset.) What's even more strange than this however, is that despite playing green (seems like a codec/rendering issue) in vlc, when I open the mpeg properties sheet (get info) I can play the clips just fine there w/o a hitch. (Note: vlc has been changed to the default file handler for this file type... i got sick of the kernel panics with quicktime.)No kernel panic or anything.

Bizarre. Thanks for your responses. Very much appreciated. If you need anymore info please let me know. I will continue experimenting.
