giusva
A couple of months ago (more than a couple really, I think 10 at this point!) I installed 10.4.3, the first patched tiger image available on my thinkpad x40. I had to erase everything because i needed more space and, also, the wireless was not working. Now I want to get OSX back on TPX40. I did the usual research in the forum and read the guides on osx86project. Needless to say I am very confused about the proliferation of images and patches. If I am correct the only image with the new version of the kernel is the 10.4.8. Am I right? If I am, should I install 10.4.8 or install 10.4.7, as some people claim that 10.4.7 has better support for most hardware? If I have install 10.4.8 is "JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 /W PPF1 Integrated & Defiant diskutil fix" the right image to work with? Is there anyone who has succesfuly installed 10.4.8 (or 10.4.7) on a thinkpad x40? I know the Intel 2220BG won't work, but about video with Qartz support (My video card is a Intel 855GM)? Thank you anyone for taking the time to answer my questions.
thestevo
I can't tell you specifically about your Thinkpad, but in general 10.4.8 will be more compatible than other versions. This is mainly due to the updated kernel. If you have some incompatibilities after the install, then look on the forums. You might find that you can download an older kext to fix the problems. I really think you'll want the new kernel. As for your image, that is the right one. As far as I know, of this date, that combo is the most up to date that we have to offer. I don't believe you'll get anything out of the 855GM. You certainly aren't getting QE or CI out of that chip, to my knowledge anyway.
