Hey guys,

I installed JaS 10.4.8 onto my dell 700m. The installation went fine, but it does not recognize my onboard lan. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I have searched the web and forums to no avail. Everyone I can find says the onboard lan just worked. During installation I installed the essential components, Intel Pack, and all printer drivers. Would installing anything else from the DVD fix this? Thanks for the help!

The problem is that Dell doesn't just sell the same computer over and over. They often change small things inside so that later computers with the same model number sometimes have slightly different hardware in them.

So, like inzeo said, to solve your problem, you're going to need to be able to tell us exactly what onboard LAN Dell put into your particular 700m. You wouldn't happen to still have Windows XP installed, would you? There's a quick and easy way to find the info by looking at the properties for the LAN in the Device Manager. Otherwise, you're going to need to d/l a Linux boot CD and find out the information that way.

Hey guys,

Thanks for getting back to me. It is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller. Thanks for the help!

It looks like what you need is the IONetworkingFamily.kext from 10.4.3 which you can find in this post.

Then you need to follow the instructions in this post.
