It seems the AirPort Extreme Base Station is actually not going to be 5x faster for everyone. The Apple UK site clearly shows it will only be 2.5x faster than 802.11g.

It might have something to do with the note at the bottom of the US page which includes the underlined sentence compared to the UK.

The AirPort Extreme Base Station is based on an IEEE 802.11n draft specification and is compatible with IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11g. The following countries do not allow wide-channel operation: Austria, Estonia, Germany, Japan, Latvia, Slovakia, Spain, United Kingdom.

Ok 2.5x or 5x, but what are these speeds? And also does that mean it affects the range too?

(Got carried away with the pics, but doesn't it look cool?)

haha! Glad to live in Canada!!! :P

Yeah right. :P What do you guys do in Canada except play ice hockey. The only good thing about Canada is Smallville.

(PS: I'm joking. I'm sure it's great. Would love to visit it sometime soon. Tell your mama I'm coming over for a few days. ;) )

Those speeds are {censored}. You'll either have 54 or 108, the distance and the signal strength is what is improved.

What exactly do you mean by "{censored}" in this case. Are the speeds made up? And you're right, I thought you could get 54, 108 but netgear have a 270mbps wireless router. So I don't get it.

The netgear is 5x faster at 270 but you would need to be able to receive the signal at those speeds to take advantage of it. The advantage would be at 5x the distance you would still have 54mbps, hopefully. Has there been any mention of the AirPort being 270?
