GaaraX
I spend the whol yesterday trying to Install MAC OS X 10.4.6 on my PC which specifications are : - MSI MS-6398 MotheBoard - Pentium 4 Northwood 1.8 GHZ - Nvidia Geforce 5200 card - 768 MB of Ram What I Had before beginning installing MAC OS X86 - Windows XP & Vista - Ubuntu 6.10 all of those 3 OS managed with Grub BootLoader What I did to try Install MAC OS X86 Well my first problem, was the ' could not read partition map ' which i Fixed by setting up MAC OSX partition as active(thanks to topics of this forum ) I checked the AMD-INTEL checkbox in customed installation, and it began installing Then , Reboot -> Grub : Error 17 (could not mount partition) Well to fix this, i have put XP CD, and when disk partition selection came up i just rebooted. With this way i recovered Windows Vista Loader. Back to windows, i tried the Chain0 method to boot Darwin Bootloader and by the way putting back MAC OS X as active partition gave me exactly the same error : When loading MAC OS X either in -v or normal boot, it gives a whole bunch of fast scrolling text, then it goes to a black screen , and after a while reboot . Well i can't figure how can I find topics or posts in this forum experiencing common problem with mine and I really want to end to something after all this adventure ^^ So any help would be appreciated, and hoping that my hardware isn't incompatible ( it seemed compatible according to the WIKI) Edited January 7, 2007 by GaaraX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37907-resolvedblack-screen-reboot-when-loading-mac-os-x-86/ Share on other sites
Overclocked Tardis
May I ask why you're installing 10.4.6 and not 10.4.8? You can get 10.4.8 in both flavors; either intel or amd. For me, the 10.4.8 dvd release - found in the usual places - worked right out of the box, including Quartz Extreme and Core Image. Maybe your experiences would be better if you tried 10.4.8, which comes with kernel 8.8.1 and working nVidia drivers that should work well with your GeForce 5200 chipset. But if you insist on using 1046, try this, as it worked for me when loginwindow.app would hang: boot using -s cd /System/Library/Extensions rm -f -r -d *GeForce* cd .. rm -f -r -d *.kextcache rm -f -r -d *.mkext then reboot too see if you have your video working In regards to finding help concerning similar problems, you can always use the search function. It's invaluable. The tutorials section houses some great dual booting HOWTO guides as well. Well, good luck! GaaraX
thanks Plat Sajack for you fast answer. Well i must admit that even if i really used tutorials and search button for other issues during install, i didn't use it for this issue just because i didn't know which keyword look for as ' Black Screen ' or ' Reboot black screen ' didn't come with any resust not a single. Well the reason why i didn't use 10.4.8 is that this version was out (with JAS patch) since 3 Januar isn't it ? and i have a very low internet connection (32 kbytes max in downloading) so it took a whole a week for me to download this version. I'm gonna try you methods and will post here wha i will get. MacRetail
I think you have an Intel SSE2 processor. That means you should select 'Intel' and 'SSE2' patches at 'Customized Install', no 'AMD' stuff. GaaraX
Well there were only one check Box for SSE2 in customized Install, something like ' AMD-INTEL SSE2 Patch ' (had no other choice). Plat Sajack, I tried booting with -s , but exacly same issue, can I do the rest of commands in an other way ? ( I have access to my HFSJ drive with MacDrive ) By the way, trying to boot via VmWARE, i'm seeing the resolution changing to something like 1024*768 before this Vmware Error : *** VMware Workstation internal monitor error *** vcpu-0:ASSERT vmcore/vmm/bt/bt_resume.c:188 bugNr=1523 There is a problem in this version of VMware Workstation. EDIT 1 : I managed to see the latest messages just before rebooting which are something like : ' Property 'Driver-xxxxxxx' [8] = (data) ', is it a Video Driver Issue ? EDIT 2 : Resolved ! When i installed MAC OS X for the first time i was in a hurry because yesterday in order to view Arsenal VS Liverpool match. So in a hurry that I didn't take attention to scroll the + of AMD-INTEL patch and select proper driver installation, one other thing this time i didn't had GRUB in my MBR, gonna reinstall Ubuntu 6.10 later Edited January 7, 2007 by GaaraX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37907-resolvedblack-screen-reboot-when-loading-mac-os-x-86/#findComment-270131 Share on other sites
