Here's my problem: I'm on 10.4.7 and every time I run an installer package the installer app hangs on the Introduction screen with a busy cursor. It never goes anywhere and I need to force quit the installer. I've tried running it on a safe boot and I get the same result.

If it helps, when I go to "About this mac", the interface crashes and brings me back to my login screen. I also have to delete Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext before I shut down or else I get about a 50% chance of making the system boot past the firewire initialization.

Thoughts?

The system is a Compaq Presario V2414NR notebook with a Turion ML-28 processor and 2GB of RAM. I installed the 10.4.7 JaS DVD through VMWare (conflict between PS/2 and USB prevents native install), then removed the USBOHCI kext to resolve the conflict. I also installed the ATI SB400 kext and XPress 200M onboardata kext.
