felix
I do not have much experience with this but have to start somewhere. What app is good for converting an old vhs clip to dvd? I have an old vhs tape with some home movies I would like to put on dvd. The quality is not great to begin with but is there anything that will help filter out snow and clen up the audio a bit? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36317-vhs-to-dvd/ Share on other sites
livestrong
Well, first of all im assuming that you need to get the vhs onto your computer correct? In that case, you have a few options. If you are willing to spend a little bit of money there are VHS/DVD recorders ( i recently saw one for under $100). This is great if you have a lot of these tapes. However, for smaller quantities, this link might be of help to you. http://www.signvideo.com/conv-v-to-d.htm I especially think the VHS player to computer is a simple option. Once you've got your content on the computer, a good basic editor will do the trick (even iMovie works great). The best for this though is Final Cut Pro which has a feature built-in for low quality recordings. It will also work wonders on audio...Ive taken all the cracks and pops (so to speak) out of my older recordings. THats about a good start i would say! Let me know if you need some more tips. livestrong Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36317-vhs-to-dvd/#findComment-258540 Share on other sites
felix
Thank you livestrong for your advice. I have been able to get the footage on to my computer via a capture device I borrowed from a friend. I was able to convert it into an mpg format on my xp. Hopefully christmas will bring me one for my mac. The footage is about 17 years old and is the last Christmas my mom had with her parents. Over time the tape got to the point it was unwatchable. I have been able to view now but would still like to try a clean it up a bit. I will give final cut pro a try and see what I can do. Thank you very much for your advice. magicjohn
Another option for people is to use the pass-through ports on nearly all miniDV camcorders. Plug your VHS into the pass through ports (composite). Connect the miniDV camcorder to the box using firewire and select capture. Press play on the VHS deck. Works great. mairambija
or visit VHS to DVD and transfer your home video tapes to dvd. You can get a pretty good conversion at a reasonable price from a lot of places. But what are most of these companies lacking? Care and attention to detail! Other ways you get totally amateurish product done with domestic equipment. link: http://www.vhs-to-dvd.com/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36317-vhs-to-dvd/#findComment-262628 Share on other sites
