Inzoum
Hi! I've successfully installed Mac OSX 10.4.7 using JaS's DVD image (AMD, SSE3), and updated to 10.4.8 using JaS's package (AMD, SSE3)(set Installer to run using Rosetta), however I can't figure out what to do to get my Ethernet working (if possible with my current system specs)... Here's my system specs: Processor = AMD Sempron 3000+ (64) on Socket 754 Graphics Card = ATI RADEON 9600 SERIES Sound Card = SB Live! Audio [b400] Network Card = D-Link DE-528 Ethernet PCI Adapter - Used to access the Internet through a residential Gateway at 192.168.1.1 (I use 192.168.1.5 as my IP address usually) Network Card (Onboard) = Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC - Used for Internet connection sharing with my laptop in Windows (big whoop, really...) Motherboard = K8VM800MAE (Manufacturer: Acer) Built-in Ethernet is recognized but cable is unplugged (logical considering it IS unplugged, that's the one that goes to my laptop occasionally, not to the router), the D-Link card doesn't seem to be recognized natively. Basically, if either network card has been found to work, that would be great, I don't mind switching stuff around back in Windows Oddities (?): - With 10.4.8, the "About this Mac" pannel no longer crashes the system, and my processor is recognized as a 4Ghz CPU . - MacOSX always displays "Safe Boot" on the logon screen, is that normal? - Shutdown / Restart tend to hang in text mode with a white box in the upper left corner, have to force-OFF the PC holding the power button Thanks for your help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36097-network-card-help/ Share on other sites
Rammjet
Safe boot is a reduced functionality booting environment used to troubleshoot. It disables network access. If you are booting with boot option, -x then that causes the boot into safe mode. Otherwise, go to the boot.plist file and remove the -x from below the Kernel Flags parameter. Otherwise, find the vendor/device id of the D-Link card and be sure it is in the IONetworkingFamily.kext. Inzoum
Alright, after installer proper ATI Radeon 9600 drivers, I can boot regularly (not in safe mode) The Realtek onboard card works very smoothly, so I swapped plugs and here I am writing from JaS OSX 10.4.8. The System Profiler reports the following PCI card: ethernet: Type: Ethernet Controller Bus: PCI Slot: PCI Vendor ID: 0x10ec Device ID: 0x8139 Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x1631 Subsystem ID: 0xd007 Revision ID: 0x0010 As for searching that in the kext, I tried to Show Package Content and browse through it but I was unable to find anything remotely related, maybe I'm just too dumb to understand what I'm searching for Thanks for your help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36097-network-card-help/#findComment-256961 Share on other sites
