Darwin nForce4 ATA/SATA controller

I don't think anybody is working on MCP51. Stop bumping the thread, it only annoys people, and won't get you anywhere. If you're that desperate to run OS X, buy a Mac.

The point of this forum is get assist and get assistance, me asking a question falls into that category. I ordered a MacBook Pro first thing this morning but thanks for the tip.

would be really nice if bikedude and medevil would continue development on this

I think they both stopped working on this anymore. But if anyone is interested, there is a link for Linux driver from nVidia (support up to nForce430)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.21.html

Forgive me if I'm too lazy to read through the whole topic, but this kext is for NForce 4 chipset to let OS X work on SATA drives?

So if I'm lucky when I use this kext I'll be able to boot my OS X native (installed via VMWare) from my SATA2 80 GB Seagate HD which is connected to my Asus A8N-E motherboard (NFore 4 Ultra)?

From the very first post of this thread by bikedude:

Since I have so much free time, I decided to try and write a driver for the nForce series chipsets (nForce/nForce2/nForce3/nForce4) based on the AppleOnboardPCATA kext. This is only a test and I don't expect much to come out of it.

[later edit:] MeDevil has successfully figured out the core problem behind the "Device blocking bus" error. ATA/SATA is recognized, drives are UDMA enabled, and will work with most chipsets after the correct device id is added to the plist file (there are already several id's in there.)

Later in this thread, myzar gave a ppf patch to convert the "tubgirl" 10.4.8 "Final" dvd to include this kext for installation.

Eventually, a few weeks later, was also made the "tubgirl" 10.4.9 final, available at TPB, which among other improvements includes this kext (no need of vmware in principle here).

Other 'later' chipsets, like the nForce410/430, etc, have had less success it seems...

One could hope this is some kind of summary of this thread, but of course it isn't, or even if it was, I bet nobody would read it after a new (39th!) page was added!

I don't know, Maybe the best would be that the initial post be edited to add the FAQ's pertaining to this development.

Yeah, maybe only little changes have to be made in order to get 410/430 working properly but i don't know anything about driver development :P

To 'install' this .kext do I just copy it into the \System\Library\ [correct map, don't know the name I'm on windows now] \ folder?

Or do I need to do it with Terminal? Is a chmod needed afterwards?

Or is there a page in this topic where it is discribed, if so, can someone link to it? I didn't found anything concrete on the wiki or forum about this.

Edit

I think I've found it already:

starting at the post from YureZzZ, somewhere in the middle of the page.

Is anyone working on the MCP55 chip (nforce 680i board ?)

It' isnt cost effective for me to by a non-sata drive to get a little further in my install

thx in advance for any information

Thanks so much guys! This fix works well for me. I was getting very slow HDD scores in XBench. Applied this fix and boosted my score. Installations, music, rips all so much faster.

Hi all! I am having trouble installing OSx86 on my hardware, an HP XW9300 Workstation. I have checked the forums here and read this thread (took hours ;) ). The XW9300 uses the NForce Pro chipset on a Tyan s2895, which according to this page: http://www.amdboard.com/tyan_s2895_opteron_board.html uses a CK8-04 chipset, which according to a couple posts on this thread is supposed to be supported by the nForce4 driver (though honestly I'm not sure what the other chipset specs on that page mean). Someone in another thread mentioned getting their S2895 board to run 10.4.6, presumably with PATA, but his listing isn't clear on that point; okay, enough preamble.

My problem is as follows: The first time I booted the JaS10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 w/ PPF's 1&2 DVD, the installer loaded, I was able to format the target drive with Disk Utility (which was NTFS) and start installing. The machine froze, however, 96% through the installation of Essentials. Upon reboot and two subsequent reboots (keeping in mind now that the disk was partially filled and formatted Journaled HFS+) the boot-text noted that the nForce ATA driver loaded, but I got the dreaded IOATA Blocking Bus. The SATA drive was no longer accessible from the installer (which I have read on other threads can be the case on partial installs anyway) and the ATA bus activity light came on solid. Any suggestions or pointers? TIA!

(btw, I used JaS as I have not been able to find Tubgirl searching :pirate2: bay or isoHunt - thanks)

1. Get the uphuck 1.3 DVD. (You know where)

2. Use my nForce4 patch. (Signature)

3. Be happy!

Also, note you should have a MBR partition with type AF (ie HFS+) before starting the install. It doesn't have to be formatted. Then if you use the patched DVD, it should be offered as an install location. YOU MUST FORMAT IT IN DISK UTILITY BEFORE USING! This creates the HFS+ allocation table in the partition.

This is a workaround for the fact that you cannot create a HFS+ partition on a drive using an MBR partition table. (ie almost every Hackintosh).

Also, as long as I have a week to wait on this download, I was just wondering whether you could explain the behaviour I noticed on the machine; namely that the first time, when the disk was NTFS, it got through a format and into the part of the install labeled Essentials, whereas on every boot afterward (where it had presumably been flagged HFS+ but without the MBR record) it seized up and put the bus in "busy" mode from pretty much the point of loading the driver onward. If the driver is incorrect, why did it manage to install 25% or so of the system before it crashed? Just curious :-)

Is this the same nforce4 sata driver that is on the Uphuck 1.3 disc or newer? I am having some crashing issues, and I think it started after I restored my install to my SATA drive from my 8gb IDE drive. The 8gb seemed to work fine, no crashes at all, and now I get random lockups, especially when I multitask.

Sure is, you probably don't have an nForce4 chipset.
