Hi guys,

Alright, I had succes with SATA drives recognition on the PATA OSX86 install so I bought a SATA 2 drive (Seagate) but I cannot seem to get the patched DVD to install OSX on the SATA partition.

Methods I have tried:

- Copy backup from OSX PATA drive (with SATA kext) to the SATA partition with superduper which did not work.

- Patch the JAS DVD (ppf1) with diskutil and nforce. It freezes at install. My SATA drives were always recognized even before the SATA kext but the install would always freeze. So it doesn't seem to matter if I use patched or non patched DVD, the install freezes.

- VMware in win XP, no go since all is fine untill OSX Disk Util shows only one 120gig disk (80 & 40) which doesnt seem to even be the drive I set up in Vmware.

- Now I'm trying from OSX (with SATA kext) on a external drive (the same PATA but now in icy box and USB2.0) to copy the image from osx to the partitionon the new drive (SATA)

The process is still working so hopefully itll do the job.

Can anyone help me with the sata patched JAS 10.4.8 (ppf1) DVD issue which is freezing everytime I try to install?

Thx in advance and I'll be back for an update on the install progress.

Can someone please tell me how to get the JAS 10.4.8 with ppf1 patched with the SATA?

I have succesfully cloned from a backup image or pata drive OSX installation but the boot is slow (at apple logo) and Xbench only shows about 50 for the disk bench and I'm using a SATA 2 drive.

Which exact files do I need and which method for the DVD patching?

Thx in advance

I just checked the log with "-v" command at boot and it seems i have diskarb errors. It keeps waiting for diskarb which last about 30 secs.

Mar 15 09:22:50 localhost kextd[27]: kextd_watch_volumes: couldn’t set up diskarb sessions

Mar 15 09:22:50 localhost kextd[27]: diskarb isn’t ready yet; we’ll try again soon

Any ideas?

I see my SATA drives in DVD install Disk Utility whether I use the kext or not.

I'm on the SATA now with a backup image that I installed with Disk Utility inside the OSX PATA install (which had the SATA kext)

Check a couple of pages back for my posts. The SATA works fine once's you're inside but I cannot seem to be able to do a native install from the DVD to the SATA partition.

Now all works but the boot process is slow due to diskarb errors.

But for your question, I always saw my SATA drives in Disk Utility m8 (from DVD install and inside PATA install)

Well, after observing, studying and sitting in the shadows of this historical forum in the world of hacking I finally have some input. Introducing myself will come later, it's not important like some people here seem to think. However, I am one of the unfortunate victims of this 410/430 chipset. Now, we have the reading protion of the driver working but not the writing. Shouldn't it be possible to automate the terminal to trigger Darwine (Win32) to use the Win32 410/430 driver to run the writing command? It would take a series of automations to make it work properly for Mac but it should be possible. Don't dare even come back with stating that its impossible. This forum has already disproved that word.

p.s. Great work so far guys but dont dare start getting satisified.

That's because your installation media has modified Via SATA-drivers included which, as you might know by, does not work with Nvidia-chipsets (diskarb and buss timeout errors). In other words, your drives will show up but you will get data corruption at best.

I got this working I thought I'd post my specs. I'm using a Chaintech Zenith VE VNF4 NFORCE 4 (not ultra) motherboard.

All I did was copy the kext file to my /System/Library/Extentions folder.

Then I went into Disk Utility and repaired permitions (I'm not even sure I had to do that)

Rebooted and bam, there's my new SATA drive.

It doesn't seem that complicated. Is there any chance of data coruption with my method? I'm nervous about puting important files on it until I've used the heck out of it for a while.

As long as you make sure it doesn't use the Via SATA kext you should be fine. Installing to an IDE-drive, installing NF4 SATA kext and then cloning your installation over to the SATA-drive using Clonetool Hatchery works just fine.... for us with older socket939 nforce4 motherboards that is

How do I apply this patch to the ISO file? I so frustrated! I downloaded the patch and checked it out, looking in the folders and what not. Any help would do.

thanks in advance

well, i am currently installing on my desktop that has an intel sata board, but i had to install it to IDE (didnt want to have to mess with my new 500gb sata drive), and then i am going to dd the disk after installing nforce 4 kexts, then try to dd it to my laptop that has nforce 430. does anyone know if that will work?

That's how I got it working m8 but I still get the slow boot (at logo) and diskarb errors when I boot in verbose mode (-v)

All the rest seem to work fine although with large file copies it can get messy.

For the guy who asked what DiskUtility I'm using. I'm still using the default one from the JAS 10.4.8 (ppf1) DVD. I never pathced the DVD with Bikerdude's DiskUtil.

i'm using nForce 650i, and i tried to install Mac OS X and at the Select Destination page.i'm using SATA HDD..please advice

nForce 650i uses MCP51 (aka the nForce 430's southbridge). It has no working SATA kext at the moment. Use a PATA HDD.

i tried a PATA hdd to install, during the installation, a message appeared warning me tat the installation could not be finished and ask me to restart the installation, i tried like 3 times already and the same error appear...please advice...

for your information,i'm using intel e6600, 650i SLI and geforce 8800GTX, and i'm using the 10.4.8 JaS AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 with PPF1 and PPF2

thanks and have a nice day forumers
