-TiLT-
Hi all, spent my night now to get this working. But first of all. The screenshot: Was kinda freaky, because I had several issues. I haven´t dealt with this stuff since some time. Could have been faster if I knew the material better. But thanx to everyone in #kernel for help, support and tolerating my confuseness. The way to success: 1. Some working install of 10.4.x 2. A second working install of 10.4.x 3. the JaS 10.4.8 AMD SSE2 combo updater 4. Semthex beta9 5. Original Apple 10.4.8 combo (maybe unneeded) 6. pacifist (maybe unneeded) How to put this together: I updated one installation with the combo updater and made sure it was running natively. Next step was to put the new kernel on that install. Uh several yellow lines.... Okay what to do now. Extracted the extensions from apple combo update and placed them over the existing extensions. Additionally I have put IOATAFamily and AppleSMBIOS from Paulicat onto. Rebooted... panics... Removed AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and Geforce.kext That was it. I am going to do this again tomorrow and write down every step to produce a better howto. Good night now. I have to sleep. -TiLT- aka smizz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35178-1048-881-beta9-amd-sse2-running/ Share on other sites

Prasys
Its AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext , not PCI kext..If you dont remove it thats it...You will end up getting a kernel panic and IOPCCardFamily.kext [thanks <SaberSHO> ] I highly suggest folks to back-up their /extensions folder To do so :- Go to terminal Type sudo -s mkdir /backup cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/* /backup so you could still have the old extensions with you just incase..... PS2 Keyboard/Mouse users - Please use your ApplePS2Controller.kext from your Older Installation [aka your old kext/OSX 10.4.7] , so that you will get your keyboard and mouse working - Thanks SaberSHO ! skredii
I have the still wait for root device problem... I'm running under vmware on a sse2 machine with the sse2.1 kernel... Semthex, any clue? zu1u
success by following the above.. though i've yet to gain CI/QE perhaps it was because i removed the GeForce.kext.. i know it's still work in progress... but hell it's all good.. i'm just glad to see it worked @ skredii : i'm getting that too when i try to boot it via vmware LATER EDIT: Seems that after a couple of reboots and such.. i get a 'Waiting for root device' error.. apparently caused by AppleVIAATA.kext which couldn't be allocated with the right root permissions or something.. so i just removed it.. and it booted back on.. will attempt to reinstall the NVidia Titan kexts now.. hopefully i will get acceleration No workie.. i get this Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35178-1048-881-beta9-amd-sse2-running/#findComment-249973 Share on other sites

Funky frank
'waiting fr root device' happens if dvd and install drive are not on the same ide port. put your hd and dvd drive on the same port, make hd as master, dvd as slave. Hellmonkeys
Hey, thanks for the tutorial, I am almost there... HOWEVER, I am having problems with the GUI. First off, I followed everything you said, plus I deleted the IOPCCardFamily.kext as stated by someone else. I am ALMOST there, however, it goes through all the Darwin boot stuff, brings me to the plain blue background with only your mouse showing, and freezes there... it won't go all the way into the GUI, or something. Anyone have a solution to this? P.S -- I CAN boot into single-user mode... just get stuck with a blue background on the GUI. rathalos
Hi people, one more thing to remove from your system if you have it: ACPICPUThrottle and all its little accessories. it causes a immediate kernel panic on loading of the kext... so remember to remove it! I have Firefox installed, i want to scrool down a page and work slow. I have QE/CI and Q2DE enabled but not improve the speed. http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/7338/picture1wl3.png System profiler see my videocard on "PCI" bus, but my videocard is AGP in computer box. I think what you say is true.. My CPU is a bit hot in OSX86, I don't have the same problem in Windows. But "Thermal Control Option" not exist in my BIOS. The option has another name or simply Thermal Control ? Thanks !
