Hello everyone,

I am attempting to install Catalina on a system of following configuration

Mainboard:        P5KPL-AM EPU
CPU:                 E5430
RAM:                4GB

HDD:                WD 500GB (SATA)
Video:               Geforce 650Ti
OS:                   Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina

Working:           network, sound, video, sleep, wake, reboot

Bootloader:       Clover_v2.5k_r5070

So far I succeeded to install Catalina on external IDE HDD WD 80GB drive connected through USB adapter. Only a modification I had to do is copy from 'High Sierra' to Catalina telemetry directory. The system works Ok but I desire to install Catalina on internal SATA drive and here I came across 'Still waiting for root device' issue.

So far I've attempted to install:

  • from USB drive the problem manifested itself
  • from Mojave on dedicated 'partition' for Catalina the problem manifested itself
  • from dedicated 8.5 GB HDD installation partition through Clover bootloader the problem manifested itself

Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave have installed all most recent OS updates and the system works although not very fast but stable and reliable.

I would appreciate any assistance in resolution of 'Still waiting for root device' issue.

Some troubleshooting shows that installation does not see SATA HDD (confirmed through Disk tool at installation time).

Thank you in advance
