Poochie
Hi all, I'm testing the AMD TEST1 of OSX 10.4.8 and I found some weird issues which I'd like to know if affect other users too. - My integrated AC97 won't sound! It's detected and I can change every setting but it will emit no sound, not even its standard static noise!! My MOBO is a DFI Lanparty SLI-DR (NF4) - The "Connect to Server" funcion in Finder will never connect to anything! - Some random issues (I created a new user, quickly switched to it and it asked me the password after the new desktop wal already loaded... I found myself on the new user desktop but with no icons on the top-right side of the screen and logging out made me lose the GUI... it switched to some kind of background terminal and got stuck), (another time the mouse would not drag icons until reboot). I'm downloading the PPF patch for the DVD to see if things get better, but I'm terribly shocked that when I finally saw the video card working as it should, I lost the audio!! Plus there's no way to use my X-Fi
spanakorizo
its working GREAT here just some issues with randomly reboots when i try to boot sometimes it needs -v mode, sometimes no it had as default -v mode in the boot.plist of the DVD but i removed it its the same about the boot / reboots (it doesnt reboot when you are in gui..just when you try to boot and after the darwin load ,it will reboot with no reason sometimes) i have a PERFECT working system and for me with amd the most important was to have QE/CI with nvidia and now i have tell us what changed after the ppf i downloaded but now its too late i have already installed the osx ,the ppf i think must be patched to the iso before installation
Poochie
What audiocard are you using? Did you try the "Connect to Server" function?
Gdfath3r
Also working great here. Only issue was airport kext, which has to be replaced by 10.4.5 version because the 10.4.8 version fails to work. No problems with AC97. Also no stuttering with dual-core. My only remaining issue is USB......usb fails to work on v2 mode, works only on slowish v1.
Poochie
I think something's really wrong in the drivers (which always worked up to 10.4.6). I i load the System Preferences/Sound ppane, changing the volume from the keyboard won't sync the slider in the preference pane!! On my Powerbook it does so and I think it should always be like that. Maybe the driver is outputting to something like a second device which is actually missing or something like that... but in Audio MIDI config I only see 1 output available!! :-(
my1stmacisaHACK
my ac97 do emit sound but its crappy... the connect server issue can be fix using mofo_x script and be sure to apply the mini patcher!!
javagreen
It wont work with my onboard GeForce 6150.. LoginWindow.app hangs after Titan detects the GeForce 6150 properly... any ideas?
Poochie
Nevermind the drivers... it looks like my long-time-disabled-ac97 is actually not working at all... maybe the karajan module got somehow disconnected during the last time I put the motherboard in the case... :-( Where can I find that script? Google didn't find much about "mofo_x script"!
errandwolfe
The Realtek 8139 network card (integrated not PCI) does not appear to work. Replacing IONetworking kext with a previously working version does not seem to work either.

As I stated before it's fault of the audio "card" itself! I cannot get it to work anymore! I don't remember if I used it after having upgraded the bios of the motherboard or not... or if the Karajan audio module may have gotten somehow partially disconnected during the installation of the mb in the case. I'll chance cpu soon so I'll chech it! What a shame it's not working just now!!!! I'm currently installing the patched AMD 10.4.8 dvd. I'll also search for that patch! Poochie
PATCH TESTING: It's incredible! I installed the new version and my DFI would then stuck at the "detected drives" screen!! To boot my computer I'm forced to disconnect di ATA drive onto which I installed OSX! the release notes say: IF YOU PARTITION OR ERASE A DRIVE WITH DISKUTIL MAKE SURE TO SELECT THE MBR OPTION I deleted the partition with WinXP, but I still cannot understand what can cause the drive detection to stall even before the nVidia raid screen!! I deleted the partition from the PowerBook via a handy USB connector but it still won't work! I cannot see any MBR option in Disk Utility... any hint? Zeroing the drive could actually work? AlienHrGig
cheers. just finishing installing with a Asus M2NPV-MX motherboard witch includes the GeForce 6150 ,nForce 430 and NVIDIA nForce 430 built-in Gigabit MAC with external Marvell PHY. In reality i use as a graphics adapter a ATI X700 board (PCIE). I installed the system with the nvidia drivers booting with the Geforce 6150 onboard adapter and got to a line on startup where it just hangs. With a new fresh install with ATI drivers and the ATI Graphics adapter when the gui is starting i get flashing light on the monitor as if i had it out of synch. i forced a lower resolution on boot, and i tried -x and -v to no avail. If i install the system without both the ati and nvidia drivers with the ati or nvidia chipset i boot it just fine. But i think it is working in vesa.I can see the screensavers that i could not see in my previous version, but i think it is rendering by software. Can someone explain how i check if i have hardware aceleration or not, and does anyone know how to install the ati drivers on a x700 board?? any help is welcome
Poochie
Normally you can see if it's software depending on the cpu usage and the smoothness of the operation. Anyway zeroing the beginning of the disk restored my booting!

Jiggah
I don't know if it's the same for your motherboard, but on my A8N-SLI, I had to go put jumpers on the front panel audio on the board for it to work. Since, you're using a NF4 motherboard chances are it's the same problem. So if at one time you had put fp audio on and then took it off, you might have forgotten to reset the jumpers on the board. cbmkgd
the release notes say: IF YOU PARTITION OR ERASE A DRIVE WITH DISKUTIL MAKE SURE TO SELECT THE MBR OPTION(...) I cannot see any MBR option in Disk Utility... any hint? The MBR option appears in the Partition section of DiskUtility, and this section only appears when you select the drive itself, not merely one of its partition. You'll then see an Options button. As for simply erasing a partition, when a partition is selected, there's no such option to select (nor is there in the cli version, diskutil). Anyway zeroing the beginning of the disk restored my booting! found out how to be sure.on the system profiler it says "quartz extreme" and "core image" both are inactive on my graphics board. installed the callisto 0.8 driver it stays the same with the esxception that it now only identifies that it is an ATI card it doesent know it is a x700 that it previously said so in the system profiler. QE/CI both still not working and i cant change the resolution with and without the callisto driver. any ideas? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- well, i fixed it, just needed the koverg patch with my hardware id "5E4F" and it works now with full QE/CI suport. but i have the mouse thearing thing, going to install mousepose to see if it fixes it. thanks for the help if you know how to fix the resolution change thing drop me a line I don't know if it's the same for your motherboard, but on my A8N-SLI, I had to go put jumpers on the front panel audio on the board for it to work. I don't think that could be the matter, that card always worked with the front audio connector either connected or not (I used that in the first days without even mounting the mobo in a case!). Jiggah
Well, I checked out the manual for the motherboard. You do need to reseat the jumper if you had a fp audio on there before then took it off (page 44). The jumpers should be set on the 10-9 and 5-6 pins to short them. The pins are on the top right of the karajan module. http://us.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/manu...G=A&SITE=NA Shorting the pins will enable output from the rear and disable output to the front. It's possible the jumpers might have slipped if you tinker in your case often or like you said the module itself might be missed up in some way. Do you get sound output in Windows from the rear? joelones
Same mobo as Poochie DFI sli-dr. Will not apply the PPF, not sure how to apply it anyway. Any solution to the finder smb connect bug? Cannot connect to Windows share either, just sits there and does nothing.
