t4ggs
Hi guys I'm having a problem when trying to boot my DVD in order to install mac os x86, and I wonder if you can help me. My DVD is a Mac OS X86 10.4.6. My Motherboard is an abit aa8x with Intel 925xe chipset. The processor is an Intel 3.06 Ghz IA64 (I'm running windows xp x64), 1Gb DDR2 and the video card is XFX nVidia 6600GT. Now when I insert the installation DVD and boot in normal boot, it get stuck with the apple gray screen; when I press F8 and boot in -v, it arrives to a blue screen with a black cursor (can't even see the upper white bar), but nothing else happens. Any ideas?? Thanks in advances. P.S. the OS will work with 64 bit or just with 32? Oh I thin my dvd is Mac OS X 10.4.6 x86 Install DVD (JaS), but I'm not sure...I'm only sure that this is a Mac OS x86 10.4.6 but don't know nothing about the "JaS"...don't even know what it's mean. Rammjet
If the motherboard has onboard Intel 9xx graphics, there may be a conflict with it and the Nvidia card. Can you turn off the onboard graphics in BIOS? Or remove the Nvidia card for installation only and then remove the installed Intel kexts prior to reinserting the Nvidia card. t4ggs
No, there is no any integrated graphic card in the the motherboard.
Rammjet
Try VMWare in Windows to install OSX to your hard drive. After you install, you won't need VMWare to run OSX: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=11314

t4ggs
the ss2, ss3 for intel, and another one that I cant remember the name but the description said something like: install this if you have an intel processor.
WaldMeister
I guess that was the Intel Combo update.. For the SSE2 and SSE3 patches, only install one of them, check with CPU-z if your processor supports SSE2 or SSE3, if it supports both only install SSE3. Hope this helps/
t4ggs
Ok, I'll try to install via VMware and then trying to boot natively. By the way do you know why it happens?? (The blue screen and the cursor)
WaldMeister
Ow, i just saw i missed something when i read the post, "P.S. the OS will work with 64 bit or just with 32?" For as far as i know, it only works with 32bit... And the blue screen with cursor is normal when you boot the dvd, i don't know why it happens, but to me it's always a sign that the installation script is loading, i have read, that for some people it can take up to 10 min, before they can select a language and continue with the installation. t4ggs
Thanks...well i wait 30 minutes ant the screen is still blue...
Rammjet
Try installing only the Intel Combo update and Intel SSE3. When you boot -v, do you see any errors before it goes to blue screen? Maybe a GeForce.kext error? I'm not positive that the motherboard is really supposed to run your processor. The specs on the motherboard say: "Intel® Pentium 4 / Pentium 4 EE / Pentium XE / Celeron D processors"
t4ggs
My brother has a very similar computer, instead of the abit mobo AA8XE he has a AA8, instead of an 6600 GTv video card he has a 6600 and instead ot a 64 bit processor he has a 32 bit one, and I installed macintosh in his computer without any problem...so why I can't do this in my pc??? I have tried changing the video card with my brother card, but still getting the blue screen... You say that my mobo doesn't support my cpu, well I don't know but i have run windows xp and windows xp x64, also ubuntu and ubuntu ia64 also suse 10...without any problem Well, thanks to you all for your help.
