takeawaydave
I would like to remove AMW0 Device which is described in my DSDT as shown below. Is it possible to remove a device with a DSDT hot patch. I was reading here that states "You cannot override existing devices and/or methods!" - not sure if this can be interpreted as deleting devices as well. Is it possible to remove a device with a DSDT hot patch. It is. Just set _STA equal to zero. _STA is neither a Device nor a Method.
takeawaydave
@foskvs typo in my post I meant using SSDT Hotpatch

takeawaydave
@foskvs tried this but doesn't work. Still learning.... DefinitionBlock ("", "SSDT", 2, "hack", "NOAMW0", 0x00000000) { Device (AMW0) { Name (_HID, "PNP0C14") // _HID: Hardware ID Method (_STA, 0, NotSerialized) // _STA: Status { Return (Zero) } } }

takeawaydave
If I define scope as Scope (\_SB.PCI0.AMW0) I get compilation error.... I'll attached the DSDT but was thinking this: DefinitionBlock ("", "SSDT", 2, "hack", "NOAMW0", 0x00000000) { Scope (_SB) { Device (AMW0) { Name (_HID, "PNP0C14") // _HID: Hardware ID Method (_STA, 0, NotSerialized) // _STA: Status { Return (Zero) } } } } DSDT.dsl.zip Edited October 10, 2019 by takeawaydave

OK - I'll need to believe you on this one since the _STA value of 0xffffffff appears to be the same whether or not SSDT-AMW is in ACPI/patched or not. if 0xffffffff signifies "Off" - then 0xf is "On" ? whatnameisit
Delete Name(_HID) because On 10/11/2019 at 12:53 AM, takeawaydave said: "You cannot override existing devices and/or methods!" See if that turns the device off(Zero=not in IOReg) instead of f or ffffffff. Also Google ACPI specs sheet. Hotpatch with SSDT is for those who have some understanding of the ACPI language. Just stick with patching the DSDT untill you get it. And in the post with the ADP1 patch I helped you with, I said (custom) SSDTs (with devices) need scope and external, in this case Scope(_SB.AMW0) and External(_SB.AMW,DeviceObj). Looks like you didn't learn anything from that...

It's pretty simple to disable anything this way, only the STA method is needed. Try the example below: DefinitionBlock ("", "SSDT", 2, "hack", "NOAMW0", 0) { External(_SB.AWM0, DeviceObj) Scope(_SB.AWM0) { Method (_STA, 0, NotSerialized) // _STA: Status { Return (Zero) } } } That should be it. All SSDTs won't work for you, probably because of wrong Scope. I edited @Pavo's example and AMW0 doesn't appear in my IOReg. Maybe it will work for you.
