Hello, I have a HP/COMPAQ 8710p laptop that boots fine but there is no USB. I can't boot the installer from a usb drive but I can if i put it on the HDD, but then I get the "macOS is already installed" problem. I have tried basically all the USB kexts there are. I also prefer to use clover EFI.

I was hoping to install High Sierra or Sierra if that's possible. I have tried high sierra and it gets stuck on a black screen with ++++++++++++ and that's it. If i use sierra it boots but gets stuck on Waiting for Root Device as there is no usb. I got keyboard and trackpad working with the voodoops2 kext but still can't install from USB as no USB drivers and putting the installer on the hdd gives me "macOS is already installed on this computer". Also thank you for the fast reply. I greatly appreciate it.

That old laptop will only support macOS Sierra or High Sierra if fitted with a Penryn C2D CPU such as T8x00/T9x00 (those introduced the SSE4 instructions set required for macOS).

Unfortunately, you have a Merom T7x00 CPU and are therefore limited to OS X El Capitan 10.11.

Intel wireless cards are unsupported and your 4965AG will have to be removed or disabled and replaced by a compatible card. You may look here for guidance.

If there is a display output at all then that's fine. Also my CPU is a core 2 duo t7500 2.2ghz and I have another machine with that cpu and it was a hackintosh. Sadly i fried the mb on that sucker. I just want to try and get usb working.

T7500 is Merom too.

Your USB ports will require 2 things:

  1. DSDT patching to rename the ACPI devices from EHCx to EH0x
  2. installation or injection of Rehabman's USBInjectAll kext.

Use MacBookPro5,1 or MacBookPro7,1 SMBIOS up to El Capitan and stick to MBP7,1 in Sierra/High Sierra if you ever get a Penryn CPU.

If you're using Clover, it's pre-programmed so to speak. Use Clover Configurator app to apply the patches "on-the-fly". There's a list available in the top section of the main screen when you select the ACPI tab.

The kext is there and USB still does not work. I have it under Kexts/Other. I have made a 10.11 kext folder and I will see if it makes a difference

Is there any other bootflags I need in clover. The only ones i use are -v and -no_compat_check

Done that and still no USB. To note, once I push boot of usb it sits on a screen with a cursor -   for like a minuet and when it does that the USB drive is flashing to show access. Once it starts booting properly it stops.

When it does that, take out the USB key and replug it into another port. See if that resumes booting process.

This being said, your Clover configuration is probably incorrect for your laptop. Why don't you post a zipped copy of your Clover EFI folder (less the Themes subfolder)?

Wow, what a mess! Tons of inappropriate and useless things in there... Where did you get that from???

Use the attached kexts set + Clover config file instead. If USB ports don't fully work, you may have to build your own USB injector kext once you identify all your USB ports in IOReg.

The whole reason it's a mess is because I was going to use another computer for this. I then saw this laptop and taught I would try and make it a hackintosh. None of the kexts were messing anything up badly so i just left them there for now,

Nope. Still nothing. How do I do the USB IOReg thing. Thanks for the help anyway. I think we are nearly there.
