mac.nub
As the title says, on an Intel Core Duo, is it possible to use both cores? I have Mac OS X 10.4.8 Installed, currently with the 8.8.1 (Mifki) Vitaliy Kernel. Many Thanks.
munky
do you currently have to boot with cpus=1 ? what happens if you dont boot with that?
dary23
I just finished downloading the revised 10.4.8 by jas with the updated kernel (am currently on 10.4.8 with old kernel). I too had to use the cpus=1 in the plist, and now curious of the same thing. I will be re-installing tonight, and will report back if it works for me at least and all my system specs. I will be stoked if it does work! Dary23
mac.nub
do you currently have to boot with cpus=1 ? what happens if you dont boot with that? 1) Yes 2) Without cpus=1 performance is choppy, after about a minute of running, Mac crashes (top bar disappears, system is unresponsive) - sometimes a black screen appears with a small white rectangle at the top. guiyoforward
Hi there mac.nub, I've been asking the same question in separate threads and I've concluded that two cores DO NOT WORK - you get stuttering issues. What I haven't managed is to get someone with kernel knowledge to explain WHY this happens and if it looks fixable in the kernel or not. My paranoid conspiracy theory? Apple keeps "tricks" in its binaries, so whatever we do with the kernels and drivers, our hackintoshes will always work... at 95% at most. There's going to be always "something" missing in a hackintosh: you got an amazing Core 2 Duo and you use one core, etc.
mac.nub
Heh, conspiracy theories 4tw. I also can't explain to a Kernel dev what happens, as there are no *displayed* error messages when using both cores... oh well. 1 core will do for me for now. Just so long as I have sound (USB Audio on the way )
munky
just to add... my hackintosh uses both cores no problems (Pentium D920), so i dont think its a deliberate apple conspiracy
guiyoforward
hey, munky, conspiracies are all against ME now seriously: I think it might be an "anti laptop" conspiracy...
IT_Slave
My laptop running fine with dual cores... T2050 1.6GHz core duo. Fresh install of JaS 10.4.8 with Semthex kernal. I had never tried any other versions before... I just needed to connect to an external monitor to install. The LCD display would got blank during the install...but other than that - was easy... SkyZ
On my Latitude D620, I was able to install JaS 10.4.8 w/ Semthex 8.8.1 kernel. Although performance is bad, it's okay to get into the system. However, once I loaded Titan driver for the nVidia 7300 Go, I can't control the mouse anymore, and finally I still need to disable one core to make the system back in shape and usable...... Linker-
what i've heard is that laptops have certain acpi quirks that arn't compatible with the kernels
fredperes
I´m running Core 2 Duo E6300. In "About OSX" the system shows 1.4GHz. Is that right? Or just one Core is functional?
mdg
I have both cores working no problem, on 3 different rigs: Intel 945G with Pentium D 950 Asus P5L-VM 1394 Core 2 Duo E6400 ASrock 945G with Core 2 Duo E6600 I think your 1 core problem is your hardware specific.
