Freezes in boot process

i recently installed JaS 10.4.6 through VMware and had no problems with the install process...when it came to boot natively, the boot process froze at this line "HFS: created HFBT on Mac OS X" (Mac OS X is the name of the partition i installed on). I left my computer here overnight, thinking it was just taking a while, but nothing happened...what should i do? I installed all the right patches off the DVD so I know its not that. I have a Compaq Presario v2610CA btw.
