katmail
Hi Benson87 I hope you can wait until 21 Jan 2007 I would recommend the Pentium 4 HT Model 631 Cedar Mill based on 65nm ..2M L2 Cache TDP only 65 watts same as the Core2 Dual Conroe From US$163 to US$69 CHIP GIANT Intel has told its partners of price cuts it is readying for this coming January, as it steps up its attack against semiconductor contender AMD. Price cuts will come on casualties of a 2007 Intel cull, with the 651, 650, 641, 640, 631 and 630 being absolutely slashed in price on the 21st of January. Hagar
OS X can be run on any number of cheap machines, but I would recommend making sure you have sse3 at least. An AMD Sempron 3000+ or so on an nforce 3 board like MSI's k8n neo has been known to work. check against the wiki for compatibility. twtmc
It runs nicely on a lot of gateway computers. You should be able to find a number of those fairly cheap. Although, as kat said, if you can wait for a few months, it should pay off nicely. hurrf
If you can't wait, I got an ASRock 775i65GV for pretty cheap, and a Celeron D off eBay. If you've currently got an AGP video card, it's dirt cheap as you don't have to buy a new one just to get Mac OS running. If not, check out Newegg for cheap mobos compatable with whatever stuff you've already got. zam
If you want the best compatibility possible in a dirt cheap new system: Asrock Conroe945G-DVI Celeron 336 (or whatever cheap new celeron) 512 MB DDR2 (add another if possible) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/33166-i-need-compatible-and-cheap-hardware/#findComment-235004 Share on other sites
avian
Another very cheap and compatible option is an openbox intel board from newegg.. Such as these two, both of which have integrated GMA950 -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...82E16813121291R http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...82E16813121289R For $60 you have your motherboard and graphics adapter covered. Then just add a Celeron D with SSE3 (something like the 2.66Ghz for $54), and 512mb of ddr2 and your off.
