Clover problems report & features request

@Slice True, those patches are in the used config, but have always been in the disabled mode. (are they to be enabled ???) As it is true that the situation of the various logs is not inherent to a static situation, but in evolution, so much so that in the end I managed to update to catalina 10.15.4 stable. If I write here, even with difficulty because of my lack of knowledge of the English language, it is not to make controversies or report false problems, but to bring to attention what is a real problem for me, namely that with all the versions following clover 5098 my clevo no longer starts. I am not a developer, so maybe I do not express myself in an appropriate way, it will not be the ACPI that is not loaded, but something that does not work in clover to start my system, exists, and I will be happy and happy when I can say that new release Clover works perfectly for me.

I downloaded CloverBootloader-master 84306ec last nite and compiled with 11.3 Xcode on MacOS using ./buildme option 6 for build all.

Everything compiled successfully, I got the CloverV2.zip, Clover.app_V1.16.pkg.zip and Clover_r.pkg.

I installed from Clover.app_v1.16.pkg and had it update Clover.  The logs showed that it did update Clover - and I could see the file date changes when I examined the EFI.

When I ran Hackintool, it showed a version of 0.

It booted up without problem, and with the Aero Theme, All looked normal Except there was no Clover version number in the lower right.

I downloaded the released version of the Clover.app_v1.16_r5107.pkg.zip - ran it, updated Clover, and ended up with 5107 showing as Clover's version.

1. What did I do wrong?

2. For the intermediate changes between the releases, would it be possible to display for the version something like 5107.84306ec (showing the GitHub commit along with the version)?

3. Is there a script that would download everything from Github like:
      git clone https://github.com/CloverHackyColor/CloverBootloader
where it would be possible to have the option 9 (update clover) pull down any further commits from GitHub (while retaining the tool builds in the toolchain)?

When I try option 9, it says something about not being a valid git repository, something like that - so I know I haven't set it up correctly as a git repository.

  1. everythings.
  2. already exist but you download a zip directory instead of the repository.
  3. you write the correct command and you did not even use it?:| (git clone https://github.com/CloverHackyColor/CloverBootloader). After that just double click click on buildme.

I can only say that you mixed a lot of stuff and conditions where too different. You take Slice's words in the wrong way.. not sure why :) but the log and your screenshot show warnings about ACPI tables... so the tables were loaded :).

I did try that script yesterday.  It pulled in the latest from github, but ... something went wrong.  I ended up having to download the zipped 5107 source to get it to compile, and then I couldn't update using git.

One tiny mistaken assumption, that a more experience Apple developer would never make and is so obvious, can be frustrating to someone trying to learn coding on MacOS!!

I'll figure it out.  I realize that people struggling with the very basics can be Very annoying.

Compiling the toolchain tools seems to take the most time.

1. Can I assume that the entire toolchain folder stays the same and can be saved and restored while testing - from build to build?

2. Is the missing clover version normal when building a non-final commit?

Thanks!

  1. you need to build it once. Pay attention to not move the repository (i.e. on a different path) because command lines like gettext hard coded and expect paths to be where it knows.
  2. Not sure what do you mean, but the repository include tags which gives the last revision. But since git use the SHA (or hash), a revision can include all the commits made until developers decide that a particular commit is promoted as "stable" ..to be released.. with a new revision...
  3. The repository has no brain... no need to say that your clone needs to be updated to have last code.
  4. As per 3., developers add code, works with others from around the world ... and often the last code can potentially be an unfinished job (a work in progress)..

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  Definitely a pain to deal with someone like me who is a bit clueless, when there's so much stress with the virus.

For #2. what I'm referring to is that when I see the clover screen in Aero, it shows the Clover version # in the lower right.   Hackintool also shows the version installed, as well as I believe the Clover.app.

This version, after compiling the latest commits last nite showed zero in those programs, and showed just an empty space at the bottom of the Aero theme in Clover.

I'm just curious if this was normal for non-release builds?   I do think it would be nice to have the major version (like 5107) and the minor version (like the hex code showing on gitHub commit) so that it's easy to identify what's installed (I have several SSD's for testing, it would be great if it showed the commit version of the build as well as the last main release version - so it's easy to tell them apart).

Slice is absolutely perfect in his statements, what he says is true; but the question remains for me, until Clover 5098 everything OK, from all subsequent releases of Clover, it no longer starts, it immediately stops as per screenshots. So if someone simply has even an idea of what to set in the config or something else to avoid this good.

Its work for the HP ProBook ElitteBook on Catalina

Sorry but it seemed in your next post you were saying that you had solved the problem using fakesmc instead of virtualsmc. Thinking..

What happens if you don't drop the cpupm table?

The latest Catalina update came alongside a nasty issue, this may be a permanent damage to the machine. Perhaps some bug in Clover+ Catalina 15.4 messed up something inside the BIOS, a corruption? I have already posted on this thread

You do not need to answer in here, wanted to let you know about it, in case this is an issue. This could bring many working Hacintoshes to be un-hackintosh-able, if this is not just about my machine.

Why I have the sensation that the rtc patch location is changed in 10.15.4?

Not sure if this is a bug, or something else, but I'll mention it here.   I upgraded from 5018 to 5107, on a perfectly working config, only to find my mouse now doesn't register mouse clicks on the clover GUI.  The cursor moves, but I cant click on any of the drives, or clover options.  Keyboard still works fine.  (Both are USB).

Not sure if related, but it seems clover no responds to the boot timeout value in the config (eg. auto boot after 6 seconds) , it just waits for user input to select a drive.

Yes, it was a bug.

Thanks Slice.  Unfortunately it behaves the same way.  I'd be happy to try any others, or supply a log if that would help.

I have a suggestion that might make life easier for point and version upgrades of MacOS.

I just upgraded from 10.15.3 to 10.15.4 using Clover r5107.  Went Perfectly!!!

[my SSD Name] was set as the DefaultVolume in Clover.

I had to select 'Boot macOS Install from [my SSD Name] - Data' twice before that choice finally disappeared and I was left with 'Boot macOS from [my SSD Name]'.

If Clover sees 'Install' AND 'Data' surrounding the DefaultVolume's name, could it be set to auto-boot from that 'Install' partition (with optional flag to turn off the behavior), as it seems this confuses a lot of new users who always mess up this step during an upgrade?

It would also mean that a user wouldn't have to be present for the restarts during an upgrade, as is required now.

Right now, I have two pen drives, one with the installer of Mojave, one with the installer of the latest Catalina. Neither work on this machine. No acces to a real Mac or Hackintosh to re-create the pen drives. Is there a build-in function of Clover to allow me to try to fix the issue?

Would adding two additional strings to the language localization make that work?

I'm unclear on how 'text' searches work with alphabets other than English.  I can deal with the way Clover works now, but this one thing really does seem to cause new Hackintosh users a lot of grief when upgrading.

At least I learned something today!  I'd previously assumed (how foolish of me) that the symbols of Asian languages were all the same.  Koren looks elegant and the basic alphabet easy to learn.

Updated the BIOS. Another CMOS reset. Issue still there? This probably hardware. If it were software, I guess it should have been fixed with all that. Right?

Would it be possible to install Catalina from a dual-lawer DVD booted through Clover from a pen-drive or another CD-Rom? This may be the only way I could install Catalina on this system.

I afraid you changed the file Cloverx64.efi but booted with file BootX64.efi as usual.

Sure you started new Clover. Provide preboot.log as a proof.

Yes, possible. Official Clover release contains ISO that is bootable from DVD drive if burn it to DVD disk.

Script file to clone and help build Clover, Opencore (official and unofficial) repos
Script will create link to itself in /usr/local/bin/bob
Wouldn't hurt to check there are no "Bob"'s there, i "Hope" there isn't.
Then you only need to type bob. and a parameter
      "n" for NDK repo, unofficial
      "a" for ACID repo, official
      "c" for CLOVER
It also takes "all" for ALL, if your game

      Easier typing bob than.....usual stuff
      Enjoy

      Hi all,

I recently build my hackintosh, I got Win10 on my 1st disk and MacOS Catalina on the 2nd disk.

Unfortunately my Win10 disk was defective and I will need to change it.

      I was thinking to :

      - Remove my Win10 disk and replace by my new one
      - Temporarily remove my MacOS Disk (Clover)
      - Reinstall Win10 on my new disk
      - Put back my MacOS Disk

I believe clover will still start, and I will still be able to boot on the new Win10 disk, what do you think ?

Thank in advance for your help,
      regards

Do you want to quickly find your boot log, or ever wanted to know which version of bootloader is installed on your disk(s), had the need to dump your BIOS from OS X, just curious about your own system setup or been asked to provide your setup information to others when asking for assistance?

DarwinDumper is a useful collection of readily available tools, and scripts wrapped in an application framework giving you a convenient method to quickly gather a system overview of your hack or Mac. And rest assured that enabling the privacy option will mask sensitive data like the IOPlatformSerialNumber, IOPlatformUUID, IOMACAddress(s), USB Serial Number(s), SystemSerialNumber, serial-number, fmm-mobileme-token-FMM, MLB and ROM efi vars and CustomUUID in the dumped files and report.

Current Release Version: 3.0.4, though latest beta DarwinDumper_v3.1.0b6

The system dumps are saved to a folder or your choice, but defaulting to the same directory as the main application. You can choose to setup a symlink to make it simple to run DarwinDumper from the Terminal.

There is an option to create an html report showing a complete overview of the dumps. This report will mostly just contain the text dumps as you'll find in the main dump directory, but for some dumps there is extra processing to try to present the information in a better way. For example, the Disk Partitions and Unique ID's dump will show a visual map of the disk layout, and the DMI Tables (SMBIOS) dump will show the data split by table type.

Note: The html report does not contain all files from a complete dump so if seeking assistance for a problem and you wish to send someone a DarwinDump then you will want to send the complete dump directory and not just the .html report file.

The following can be read and dumped by DarwinDumper:

Running DarwinDumper from the command line:
From Terminal, you can initiate DarwinDumper by running the following script directly.

/DarwinDumper.app/Contents/Resources/public/bash/script.sh To help with this, the UI has a Symlink option which you can click to create a symbolic link which points to the above script. DarwinDumper can then be subsequently run from the command-line by loading a new Terminal window and typing darwindumper followed by return.
