Hi, I am trying the wiki tutorial on getting my sound to work, I dropped the AppleAC97Audio.kext in the extensions folder, at first had permission problems, so I read in the forum few a few commands in terminal and was able to fix permissions "sudo chown -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext (dunno if it worked, but I dont get the notice when I boot now) and still have no sound, so I went to the wiki tutorial and was gonna do it step by step, but at step 5 I get "bash: cd/System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext/Contents: No such file or directory"..I cant seem to find the IntelICH.kext (on my pc or online)

I had sound with the deamooo image but there wasnt an AppleAC97Audio.kext file in extensions with the dvd install

my sound with dxdiag:

Realtek AC97 Audio

device id: PCI\VEN_8086DEV_24D5SUBSYS_80951

manufacturer id: 65535

product id: 65535

If someone could spare a few minutes to help, I would gladly appreciate it, either I need the files off the deadmoo and info on how to install them correctly or find out what I need to do to get the files that I have now working, I would like to get the files working, I would think it would be easy since the deadmoo image worked...but I dunno, if it is gonna take a small act of god to accomplish, I can just go buy a usb sound card if anyone could tell me which ones definitely work with the generic install dvd.

thanks, this board has been very helpful, and I am sorry to bother you all with another topic on sound, I am just not sure what to do now.

if you need anymore information to help figure out what I need to do, just ask.

Hi,

I supose your are able to boot without any options (-x), it's important I have no sound when I boot in Failsafe!

Download the file "AppleAC97Audio.kext.zip" from there:

[DMCA Violation Edited by Hagar]

unzip it first and then copy it into /System/Library/Extensions

You don't need to configure it, your ID 24D58086 is in ICH5.

Reboot and test if you have sound.

If you still don't have sound after that try to load the kernel extension yourself:

# sudo -s

# chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

# cd /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/

# kextload AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext

then clean your extensions cache:

# rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

# kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

Reboot and test if you have sound

Good luck
