umm how many times did you try the install. I got that sometimes when installing, but my XP disk was also scratched, so ya. also, did you reformat the partition, or did you just try to install over it?

hmmm... try making a boot disk and boot from it. Get a floppy, go to any working windows (home or professional according to what version you're using) and copy the files: NTDETECT NTLDR and Boot files. they should be in your C: drive, make sure you enable hidden files and disable "hide protected operating system files. after that, try and boot off the floppy and hopefully it works.if this still does not work, try copying the ntldr and nt detect files into your c drive (root). then reboot and see if it boot automatically. if this does not work, try looking for those files in the installation cd, its in the i3xx folder. after finding them, paste it in the c drive as usual. finally if this doesn;t work, go to microsoft website for help. search for boot help

hope i've been able to help you

i had the same problem with an iMac, and it was because the partition table was corrupted.

all i did was to erase the partition from Disk Utility, restart, then create again the partition, formated to fat32 and then install again WinXP... within windows installation, i changed it to NTFS.

it could a problem with your boot.ini file as said above, specially the partition number windows xp is trying to boot from.

but if you delete the partition and create it again, you should not have any problem.
