nitromaster
Hi, I have a few problems The first one is that I have a ps/2 keyboard and mouse, and they both don't work. Am I required to have a usb keyboard and mouse for osx to work? The second gripe that I have with os x is that it detects my ethernet connection, but when I open safari, it doesn't connect to the internet. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. McSkywalker
Do you have ApplePS2Controller.kext installed? For the internet problem, did you try the network diasnostics and network setup assistant?
nitromaster
In fact, when I start up the computer, it tells me that ApplePS2Controller.kext was not installed properly... Is there somewhere were I could install it from? And where to i access the network diagnostic from? Thanks for the fast reply! An update: I was looking around the network diasnostic and setup assitant, and although they see the Ethernet connection, the option is disabled. Also, when I turn on the computer, it tells me that AppleRTL8139Ethernet.kext was not installed properly... Where could I get AppleRTL8139Ethernet.kext and ApplePS2Controller.kext ? Thanks for any help.
McSkywalker
For the ApplePS2Controller.kext, try this: ( I assume you can reach GUI and you have USB keyboard and mouse, since you can open apps in finder. ) Open terminal and type: sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext
nitromaster
Thanks for the tip. One thing.... I only have a usb mouse but no keyboard, but is there something in mac os x that enables you to press the keyboard keys with the mouse by any chance?? In windows its like the on-screen keyboard. Thanks.
McSkywalker
Sure, open system preferences, click international, select the tab ¨Input Menu¨ and click on the tick box near the Keyboard Viewer, if it is not already selected. You should be able to see it on your menubar. You can also copy the commands from my post and paste them into the terminal. For the network, click on the network icon on system preferences and click Assist me.. PS. if you use a combination of a USB mouse and a PS/2 keyboard, it won't work that way. you need to have them both USB or both PS/2. If you have a PS/2-USB adapter, use it with your mouse. nitromaster
Thanks.. Is there any remedy for my ethernet. Can I use the same system to isntall the Apple...Ethernet.kext? Thanks for all the help.
McSkywalker
You can use the same method for correcting the permissions of any kext. But before messing up with your ethernet kext, I'd recommend using the network assistant. Good luck.
nitromaster
Thanks a ton. My ps/2 mouse and keyboard work perfectly. Thanks Onto my network.... I get onto the internet through a LAN, but when I tried the network assistant and diagnostic, all the options where disabled... when I go into the hardware, Apple recognizes the ethernet, but never lets me use it to connnect to the internet. I also tried repairing the kext, but when I do that, (almost the same way for the mouse and keyboard) I get an error which says: Doesn't not understand root:wheel Thanks for your help! nitromaster
sorry... I restarted the computer, and tried it again, and it worked perfectly. My guess is that I spelled it wrong the first time.... Well, that's it for now, Thank you so much for everything. -- Andrew
