I have a problem with my ethernet working on 10.4.7 -- It will DETECT my Ethernet card and will say a cable is connected, however, it says it is unable to obtain an IP address. The ethernet port works fine in Windows. The Ethernet port is an Onboard Realtek 8169... Also, it worked awhile ago with 10.4.7, but then I combo upated to 10.4.8 and it didn't work, so I formatted, installed 10.4.7, and now it won't work in that either... any ideas?

Alright, well, I figured a few things out... for one, it's my router. If I directly connected my cable modem to my computer, my ethernet port in OS X will work.

Now, again, the ethernet port THROUGH my router works FINE with Windows XP, DHCP functions and all that jazz. However, on OS X, when I try to use DHCP Automatic settings, it fails, no IP, etc.

NOW, when I set my IP to something like 192.168.1.105 by setting it to DHCP - Manual or whatever, internet websites WILL NOT WORK, however, I AM able to acces my router's administration page through 192.168.1.1. Oh, and my router is a Linksys WRT54G -- I am using a wire, obviously, not the wireless function of the router.

Now, I think I *did* update the firmware sometime between it working on OS X and it not working on OS X... so maybe that was it, I dunno.

ANY ideas? Please?

-- Thanks for the replys I have gotten.

EDIT: No, I am not using a notebook. I have a desktop PC, AMD nForce 3.

EDIT AGAIN: I use the JaS 10.4.7 ISO Repack DVD.

I figured it out, it's a problem with their newest firmware, 1.01.0... you would have to download the router to 1.00.9 -- However, the Linksys FTP is down and I am unable to obtain the fimware to flash my router ;). Anyone happen to have a link to this? I will let you know if I find one too...

EDIT: The link for this firmware for v5 or v6 for the router WOULD be (ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/wrt54gv5_v6_fw_1.00.9_US_code.zip), however, the FTP is down... anyone have this? :)

EDIT #2: Wow, I was finally able to find it on some dutch website that required registration, and boy was that not easy... But anyways, I uploaded it to rapidshare.com for anyone that needs to find it [EDIT: BELOW!]

EDIT #3: I forgot I could attached things here... you can now download the firmware for v5 and v6 of Linksys WRT54G from the attachment below! I have tried it, and yes, it WORKS! So just 'upgrade' (or downgrade) the firmware normally from 1.10.0 to 1.00.9, and you should not have the "unable to obtain IP address" error anymore!
