jerkbag
I know this has been discussed before, but I didn't see any final solutions. Maybe this can be a gathering place for people who have the slow install issue. My situation: Boot off install DVD, setup my drive, begin install. It starts at saying 25 minutes left and continually creeps up, usually saying about 3-4 hours left when the bar is about 1/3 across. The most I've let it run is for about 3.5 hours, at which point the overall install bar is about halfway across, with a remaining time at 5 hours. I've run the install in verbose mode, and seen nothing to indicate it's having trouble reading the DVD. I've triend a couple of burns with the same result (this is a JaS 10.4.6 DVD). DVD Drive is Primary Slave, install (IDE) drive is Primary Master. PC Setup is a fairly new ACER box (Aspire ASA85). Celeron D 352, SEE3, 1GIG Ram, SIS661FX chipset. Should I still be looking at the DVD here? If so, is there any way I could test how well the disc is working in windows (windows only shows a few files on the disk, so I can't bulk copy off it to see how fast it goes) Thanks. jerkbag
Anyone have any idea on this? I've disabled speedstep, various bios stuff, and burned many DVDs (all of which work fine & fast in windows). If I can't get around it, I'm wondering if it's possible to install off the disk image? Is it possible to create a drive image of the iso and boot & install from there? thanks.
Goodie
Which HDD do you have? It took ages for me and some other folks to install on WD (though we had Gigabyte DS3 mobo), but maybe WD doesnt work well on your mobo as well.

I don't mind leaving it if it will actually work, but I'm assumed something was wrong. How long did your install take? Mine gets into estimated time remaining of 3-4 hours after running for about half-an hour. . .
Goodie
My install took about 6 or 7 hours I think. Also when installation completed, HDD speeds were max 3mb/s. Then I changed to Seagate and now it works fast.
