Dell 5420. What do I install.

I had Yose installed but keep crashing on Dell 5420.

Thinking about installing Maverick.

I found an old USB drive with Leopard on it, that I used a few years ago for backup. It works! everything.

The draw back is my apps don't work on Leo.

Thinking about Maverick and see if the Leo kexts for sound , Net and ect.will work on Mav?

Any suggestions would be nice, thanks.

Oh my  , when i told you about post your hardware specs was to post the CPU model and basic things...but let it be. It sounds good!  ^_^

Your hardware is good, but for Snow would not be the best option. Mavericks will be better.

And your WiFi card doesn't work in all OS X versions, buy another card or use Doodle USB.

Well I have Maverick 9.4 working.

boots with no flags. - No sound and wiffi (it reports no hardware installed)

I use Snow Leopard on a Tosh. with myhack to make a usb Maverick installer.

It would not boot on 5420, so I installed on portable USB HD.

with a i5 extra folder I got from here,>  I replaced those in the  USB HD extra folder.

USB HD then booted on 5420.with no track pad.

I made an image of USB and restored to 5420> It Booted no trackpad , use usb keyboard.

I transfered snow leo  extensions with kexthelper  to 5420.

Trackpad worked.

Now if I boot the USB on 5420 it has wifi.

Thanks to who ever posted the i5 extra folder.

For TrackPad you can use VoodooPS2Controller, but go to RehabMan's version.

Thanks Allan ,

I used the voodoo and everything worked.

Then I got a kernel panic  couple boots later.

I think it because of Dual boot with Windows 10 !!

Windows 10 uses EFI , not like the old days.

So I'll start over with out Windows 10 1049 on the Dell 5420

I have windows 10 on Dell 755 desktop. really like it .It's Mac like. with 50" uhd Vizio TV.

I don't like Windows 8 !!!  Windows 10 is a whole new ball game.

I fact I like windows 10 better than Yosemite.

It's hard to crash win 10,runs things virtual mode.
