jlmr02
Hello everyone, I'm now working on my first (and somewhat accidental) Hackintosh. I just built my first PC and couldn't get along with Linux, so decided to try and install Mac OS X. So far, almost everything is working great, I have but one problem: Shutdown (or reboot) is rather abrupt and when I log back in, I get the message that my "Mac restarted because of a problem". The error report (see below) mentions a kernel panic. Although it is relatively minor inconvenience, this abrupt shutdown can't be good. I already had one really bad HFS+ corruption (but this could also be because of the Paragon HFS-drivers on the Windows side...). Error report: *** Panic Report *** panic(cpu 1 caller 0xffffff800041e80a): Kernel trap at 0xffffff7f80fa158f, type 14=page fault, registers: CR0: 0x0000000080010033, CR2: 0x0000000000000020, CR3: 0x00000001f3f42033, CR4: 0x00000000001626e0 RAX: 0x0000000000000000, RBX: 0x0000000000000000, RCX: 0x0000000000000000, RDX: 0x0000000000000000 RSP: 0xffffff811026bb90, RBP: 0xffffff811026bba0, RSI: 0x000000000000000e, RDI: 0x0000000000000000 R8: 0x0000000000000027, R9: 0xffffff801904926b, R10: 0x000000000000000c, R11: 0x0000000000000017 R12: 0xffffff8000b10688, R13: 0xffffff801916f800, R14: 0xffffff801916f800, R15: 0xffffff801916a800 RFL: 0x0000000000010246, RIP: 0xffffff7f80fa158f, CS: 0x0000000000000008, SS: 0x0000000000000010 Fault CR2: 0x0000000000000020, Error code: 0x0000000000000000, Fault CPU: 0x1 Backtrace (CPU 1), Frame : Return Address 0xffffff811026b840 : 0xffffff800033a811 0xffffff811026b8c0 : 0xffffff800041e80a 0xffffff811026ba80 : 0xffffff800043a443 0xffffff811026baa0 : 0xffffff7f80fa158f 0xffffff811026bba0 : 0xffffff7f80f4d505 0xffffff811026bbe0 : 0xffffff7f80eff8d0 0xffffff811026bc70 : 0xffffff7f80ef78ac 0xffffff811026bcb0 : 0xffffff7f80f4e164 0xffffff811026bd00 : 0xffffff80008b85b1 0xffffff811026bd50 : 0xffffff80008ff0b5 0xffffff811026bdc0 : 0xffffff80003ea95e 0xffffff811026be10 : 0xffffff800033e91c 0xffffff811026be40 : 0xffffff80003235a3 0xffffff811026be90 : 0xffffff8000333e8d 0xffffff811026bf10 : 0xffffff800040a142 0xffffff811026bfb0 : 0xffffff800043ac66 Kernel Extensions in backtrace: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.4.1)[6D99A3BE-D531-3780-880B-13F2FC894A4A]@0xffffff7f80eed000->0xffffff7f80f33fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[766FC23F-452C-3B74-951C-598BB17BCF06]@0xffffff7f80b24000 com.apple.nvidia.driver.NVDAResman(10.0)[53CC0E05-7382-336C-8239-AE884D6CA71A]@0xffffff7f80f4a000->0xffffff7f811cafff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[766FC23F-452C-3B74-951C-598BB17BCF06]@0xffffff7f80b24000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.4.1)[F4738C55-B507-3627-A9CA-3D29A5230A03]@0xffffff7f80f34000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.4.1)[6D99A3BE-D531-3780-880B-13F2FC894A4A]@0xffffff7f80eed000 dependency: com.apple.AppleGraphicsDeviceControl(3.7.21)[4700601D-3FEB-3B86-B2BA-8D71AF84D1C4]@0xffffff7f80f44000 BSD process name corresponding to current thread: WindowServer Boot args: slide=0 dart=0 nvda_drv=1 kext-dev-mode=1 Mac OS version: 14A389 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 14.0.0: Fri Sep 19 00:26:44 PDT 2014; jamiethemorris
Check what's in nvram with sudo nvram -p . it sounds like you got a kernel panic once and now the kernel panic message is stuck there. I've had that happen before. If it is, you can clear it with sudo nvram -c. What do you mean by abrupt shutdown? Does it do something weird when it shuts down or does it just do it really fast? Is it actually kernel panicking in shutdown(you can verify if it is by using the debug=0x100 kernel flag)? BTW - Paragon HFS drivers have been known to corrupt drives. I've never had a problem with macdrive. If you don't care about read/write privileges to HFS from windows, you can just use the bootcamp drivers. They're pretty easy to find if you Google it, iirc it's just a registry key that needs to be added.
jlmr02
Thanks for your fast replies fantomas1 and jamiethemorris! Unfortunately no succes yet. @jamiethemorris First an update on whether it is actually a kernel panic: Adding the debug flag confirms it. Clearing nvram had no effect. @fantomas1 I modified config.plist as you said, but with a different device ID. System Report said the following: Device ID: 0x13c2 Revision ID: 0x00a1 So I changed <key>Replace</key><string>0x13c210de&0x0000ffff</string> To <key>Replace</key><string>0x13c200a1&0x0000ffff</string> (BTW, are the ampersands supposed to be there?) After changing config.plist the system wouldn't boot properly anymore. I would get the Apple Logo with loading bar and then the screen would turn black. I eventually had to boot into single user mode to change config.plist back again. Did I do the kext injection properly? Is there anything else I could try? jamiethemorris
Are you using the iographicsfamily patch, or agpm patch or anything? Can you post you config.plist? Which web drivers are you using? Different configurations seem to have success with different versions. For example on 10.10 the f03 drivers were unusable for me, but worked fine for many other maxwell users.

Also have you tried a different smbios? Try MacPro3,1, it doesn't have any entries in AGPM. I've noticed with my 980 at least that AGPM will load with certain SMBios even if it doesn't recognize my card. Something to do with the control-id. fantomas
@fantomas1 I modified config.plist as you said, but with a different device ID. System Report said the following: Device ID: 0x13c2 Revision ID: 0x00a1 So I changed Replace 0x13c210de&0x0000ffff To Replace 0x13c200a1&0x0000ffff (BTW, are the ampersands supposed to be there?) After changing config.plist the system wouldn't boot properly anymore. I would get the Apple Logo with loading bar and then the screen would turn black. I eventually had to boot into single user mode to change config.plist back again. Did I do the kext injection properly? Is there anything else I could try? don't use Revision ID Vendor ID + Device ID 10de 13c2 just do as I said edit: you didn't mentioned your config maybe MacPro3,1 smbios is not the most appropriate for your configuration
jlmr02
Hi fantomas, Ok so that was stupid of me. Now I did it like you said, but Mac OS X won't boot properly. I get the Apple logo and loading bar and then the display turns black. I had to boot in single user mode to modify config.plist again. Also I changed SMBios to iMac14,2. This seems to work fine for now. What was supposed to happen? How can I diagnose what went wrong?
le0nardwashingt0n
Hi, I have a very similar error report starting after I installed an EVGA GTX 970. When I boot up the system it often KPs a few times during the boot, but eventually it will boot into OS X and say that there was an error and ask to show an error report. I've tried this patch without any difference. I'm using the newest webdrivers and the nvda_drv=1 boot flag. Been trying to figure this out but haven't had much luck. Any ideas would be really appreciated. aphex6b
I am not experiencing panics on shutdown, but every shutdown is awfully slow, i think somehow boot-display (the active one) etc is involved, cause i also no longer get console messages printed out. I tried a really old fix for Lion that edits some timeoutvalues for some services to improve shutdown time, but did not really help. I wonder what is going on, but don't really know how to diagnose any further.

I tried a really old fix for Lion that edits some timeoutvalues for some services to improve shutdown time, but did not really help. I wonder what is going on, but don't really know how to diagnose any further. That trick used to work in Lion, it doesn't seem to make a difference anymore. This happens with every Mac and Hack that I own as well as the Macs at my work.
nccyr
I'm seeing similar crashes when shutting down my system (GA-P55-UD3, Yosemite 10.10.2) which has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640. On shutdown the crash occurs 8 out of 10 times. Did anyone find out to avoid the panic?
Philip Petev
Same here. EVGA GTX 650 on GB H77N-WiFi, OS X 10.10.x, Clover and iMac13,2. The interesting part is that those KP occur only with the stock OS X drivers, there is no such problem with the Web driver, but the HDMI audio doesn't work with them. Edit: forgot to mention, the KPs occur only if the display is connected to the HDMI port, no problems on the other two DVI ports.
polyzargone
So same here too. My setup is : Core i5 4570 3,20 GHz - MSI Geforce GTX 650 Ti 2 Gb - Gigabyte GA-H97-HD3 - 6Go DDR3 - Clover r3193 - OS 10.10.2. I'm not using Web driver, cause HDMI audio doesn't work with them too. Not a major issue but that's still annoying to have KPs !
