Could this be related to a mis-interpretation of a Fusion drive?  Just a thought.

It appears "private func getMediumType(..."  may be choking on externally connected USB drives.  I stepped through in debug mode and as soon as I encountered the drive that is my external USB (Backup) drive the function crashed. This particular USB drive has no "Medium Type" characteristic. Also "private func isSolidSate(..." fails for the same conceptual reason.

 

I'm no familiar enough with Swift or Xcode to fix it.

I'm not a Swift developer but I corrected the issue for myself (note that this is for my educational purposes).  I'm certain this isn't exactly right and there is almost certainly a much more elegant way to do handle this use case scenario but here are my edits:

First of all thank you Vector Sigma & Co for the work you have done, I wouldn't have ever thought it would be possible to get this much hw information on macOS :)

 

I was wondering if there is anything that should work, but is missing from my HWMonitor? I'm using ITEIT87x.kext, RadeonMonitor.kext, IntelCPUMonitor.kext and FakeSMC.kext from HWSensors-3_r178 and HWMonitor 2.4.1.

 

Couple of things I noticed are ambient temperature that used to work on some older HWMonitor build with same set of kexts. IGPU utilization, Device Unit 0 Utilization and Frequency are always zero. Also no frequency on RX 560, utilization and activity work ok on it. My GPU's are set to native power management and are set correctly to get HVEC.

 

Also, would it be possible to get an option to disable all fan readings. I don't have any fans or pumps.

Hi vector...only today i had time to try HWMonitorSMC2.app_2.4.1 and unfortunately it shows only 16 of my 18 cores CPU...the previous releases were ok, infact the last i used was HWMonitorSMC2.app_IPG_optional and it shows all 18 cores temp.

Hi, these properties are taken from the IOAccelerator ...i.e. from your GPU driver. The fact is that I cannot know if they are working for someone or not for someone else. You have Fan working when it says "Fan/Pump speed rate = 19%". I can do that if value is zero the sensor will not show up.

About the ambient, I need your SMC dump.

That comes from your IOreg, the application just read it. Why is not really a question for me, but for the vendor of the video card. Anyway, I'll make an option to not  read fans at will.

Where do you think that GPU fan 19% is coming from. Could it be that the GPU does not know it doesn't have a fan anymore and internally it's still adjusting the fan speed.

From the AMDxxxxxxxx.kext. Sure is, but I don't know if you can or cannot fix this.

Hey guys great job on HWSensor, found couple of bugs:

 

The HWSensor from r178 prevents OS from sleeping.

How I know? By shutting the HWSensor sharingd goes away.

 

On the side note, the Motherboard Temp and the Ram temp is 0, also the fans are on the turbo-jet speed and the desktop is about to take off at 16k RPM :)

Thank you good sir, I mean to be honest it doesn't bother me at all, the important things like, CPU, GPU are all there, having motherboard and DRAM temps are nice but not a deal breaker you know what I mean?

      tl;dr: VirtualSMC causes me a flood of log messages and correlated cpu spikes. FakeSMC doesn't.
       
      Hi, I have almost finalized my Huawei Matebook X Pro Opencore setup and everything is working very well besides wifi/bt ofc (which is about to change).

      As you can see, multiple of these per second. Another guy with the same computer is also having this issue and posted a dsdt change to fix it. This fix didn't solve anything though
      He tried to limit the Notify call by implementing a state change requirement before calling Notify.

The idea itself shouldn't be too bad right? Well, as I said, his fix didn't work.
       
      In fact, to prove that Method _Q81 doesn't have anything to do with the issue at all, I created a Clover/Opencore patch to change _Q81 to XQ81. This resulted in my lid not working at all of course, but the log flooding still persisted!
      So _Q81 doesn't have anything to do with the issue afaik.
       
      Now, further Google searches led me to a chinese post where he tied the issue to VirtualSMC. And indeed, by migrating to FakeSMC the issue is no more.
       
      Unfortunately, I'm very fond of VirtualSMC for various reasons. So I would very much like to keep it. If not I'd have to implement the old way of doing Battery monitoring etcetc. Which isn't very elegant and update proof as it requires DSDT patching.
       
      So, I do believe that the issue may very well be in the DSDT code, perhaps in the ambient light part. I'm not very skilled at this and just started studying the ACPI spec 3 days ago.

      Don't mix 6.18 and 3.41.
       
      There are three different projects for monitoring temperatures, voltages, fans speed and other hardware parameters:
      Initially it was FakeSMC with plugins for producing SMC keys for hardware parameters for different hardware. But sometimes ago Kozlek separated own version of FakeSMC and producing new set of plugins while I stay with good working version 3. So..
      1. FakeSMC v3 with Hardware Sensors3  which I still supported.
      2. FakeSMC v6 (rev1800) by Kozlek and supported by Rehabman. AFAIK both are abandoned and the project is not supported. Or may be maintained by coauthors.
      3. New VirtualSMC by vit9696 with own set of sensors kexts. It depends on Lilu.kext. The project is in active development.
      All three project have incompatible interfaces sensors<->SMC so they are incompatible with each other.
       
      There are applications for monitoring hardware parameters and they commonly depends on these projects.
      1. iStat, iStatMenu, iStatPro compatible with real Macs because they use SMC keys just like those presents in real Macs.
      2. HWMonitorSMC by Navi (initial codes from Kozlek)  used in my HWSensors3.
      3. HWMonitor by Kozlek with graphics like in IntelPowerGadget used in his HWSensors version.
      4. HWMonitorSMC2 by Vector_Sigma tends to be universal supporting all project. It also may use sensors information produces by Apple graphics and by IntelPowerGadget.
       
      Let us discuss here differences and common ideas for this projects.
