stephndsz
I have a late 2012 Mac Mini i5 Dual Core which came with 4GB RAM, been using it since December '13. I decided to Upgrade the RAM (Memory) to 8GB and bought 'Two Corsair Value Select 1600 MHz' 4GB RAM sticks and upgraded it to 8GB about a week and half back. Currently Running Mavericks 10.9.3Since then I have experienced that the Mac during some youtube videos, hangout video calls (Chrome Browser) etc crashes and I get the 'Grey Screen asking me to press any button to Restart screen'.It happens atleast once daily sometimes twice. today it happened a lot. I've checked the 'About Mac' memory tab says 8GB with both sticks working fine. Even ran a Apple Hardware Test this morning and got a clean result. Can anyone help me with this? thanks
JahStories
are you sure its a memory related problem? check the "console" app for any Kernel panic related problem and post it back here, btw usually when installing new ram modules, its better to try them one by one, and then plug both if there isn't any problem... I thought it could be related to Memory since i had upgraded recently. LouCioccio
Allan, Have you reset the SMC? You can re-install the OS but have to be online. Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve Shut down the computer. Unplug the computer's power cord. Wait fifteen seconds. Attach the computer's power cord. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer. If the problem continues go to #7 Use the built-in recovery disk to reinstall OS X while keeping your files and user settings intact. Important: You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X. Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys. If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu (in the top-right corner of the screen). Select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue. Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk (in most cases, it’s the only one available). Do you have the original RAM? Try using that before the steps I listed to see if the if the new ram is the cause. When I got my 27" iMac and installed 32 GB RAM I put in the two 4GB sticks from my iMac (faster RAM) but it worked fine for my wife's Mac Mini. Allan
Hi Lou Cioccio, how you doing? Thank you for that explanation. But who is having the problem is the user @stephndsz. We will wait he comes back, and try what you said. Bye
