Issues with Mavericks on a Gigabyte GA-H87N-WIFI Motherboard

Hi all,

So I am trying to get a hackintosh running for a friend of mine and I am running into some issues. Here is my hardware setup

  • Gigabyte GA-H87N-WIFI LGA 1150
  • Intel Core i5-4430 Quad Core Haswell @ 3.0 Ghz
  • 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz PC3-12800
  • 240GB SSD

I used the CustoMac Mini Deluxe build, the only thing I left out of the list was the video card, which was listed as optional

So, I originally tried to follow tonymac's tutorial which did not get me very far. During bootup after finishing the OS install, I would get a whole screen full of distorted lines and the process would not go any further.

So I decided to try another tutorial to try and get mavericks installed. The second time around, I used this tutorial for installing a vanilla OS X 10.9

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/280756-guide-the-all-in-one-guide-to-vanilla-os-x-including-chameleon-dsdt-for-beginners-updated-for-mavericks/

This tutorial seemed to be much better, but after I do the initial install of OSX onto my SSD (btw, the only way I could get the installer to load was via the –x -f –v flag during boot) I am getting a kernel panic. I have quite a bit of experience with UNIX/Linux so I am not at all afraid of the command line, but I have to admit some of the messages that get spit out in verbose boot make it sound like your computer is just about to commit suicide in some graphic and dramatic way. Here is a screenshot of the kernel panic that I am running into (btw, this is also when I use the –x –v –f boot flags – for some reason it worked without issue the first time, but at the point of the tutorial where I am supposed to boot back into the installer and run a few things in terminal, I am not able to get back into the installer to load up the terminal application).

post-1316325-0-27986900-1394728545_thumb.jpg

I should mention that when I view the boot process with the –v (verbose) flag, I do see some error messages that say something about the CPU not being compatible with the system, even though this processor is listed on the site that specs out hackintosh builds.

Occasionally the boot process seems to get hung up on something related to Bluetooth as well, but I do not have a picture of the output readily available. I can upload a pic when I get home from work tho (that is, if I can get it to fail in the same way)..

Any idea what is going on?

First, I'm absolutely not super knowledgeable about this stuff... but my recommendation would be:

A) check BIOS settings. I would start here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/294837-vanilla-mountain-lion-install-intel-hd4600-onboard-graphics/

b )While you're in your BIOS, change it to boot the USB stick first. It appears to be trying to boot from your main drive, and you have diskutility/terminal from the installer.

      - Download the SmallTreeIntel82576.kext attached bellow. I do not remember where I found it.

Now you can start the instalation without problem (I guess).

      How install

      UEFI Setup Configuration and Installation

      UEFI configuration

      - Shutdown and insert the flash.
      - Power on with DEL pressed to enter BIOS setup.
      - Change value: Periphelrals - Initial Display to IGP
      - Change value: Periphelrals - USB Configuration - XHCI Hand-off to ENABLE
      - Change value: Chipset - VT-d to DISABLE
      - Change value: Chipset - Internal Graphics to ENABLE
      - Change value: Chipset - DVMT Pre-Allocated to 128M
      - Save & Exit Setup

      - Now, hold the F12
      - In the list, select your flash drive.
      - It will show twice. One with UEFI prefix and another without.
      - Select with UEFI prefix. Ie.: "UEFI: Sandisk Cruzer"

      The installer will start.

      Format destination disk

Format the disk with GUID partition mapping and name it "HD".

      - Select Disk Utility in the list, then press Continue.
      - Click in View, then "Show All Devices".
      - Select the destination Disk, then Erase.
      - Name: HD, Format: APFS and Scheme: GUID Partition Map

      Close Disk Utility.

      Select "Install macOS", then Continue.
      Follow instructions in screen.

      After install

After first part install the system will reboot.

The second part of the installation will begin. This will take 16 minutes.

      Post installation

      Install bootloader

When the second part of install finish, the system will reboot again.

After performing the user initial setup and go to the desktop, you need to install Clover on internal disk.

Open the Clover installer inside flash drive that you copied before.

Use same options above but choose the system partition this time.

Now you need to replace the EFI folder inside your destination disk EFI parittion, with EFI folder inside flash card EFI partition.

If the flash drive EFI partition of your destination disk or flash drive is unmounted:
Mount with terminal "sudo diskutil mount /dev/rdiskXs1". To know what X is, use "diskutil list", most likely is 0 for destination disk and 1 for flash drive.

      Then, eject the flash drive.

      Last step

Move all Kexts from EFI partition to /Library/Extensions, with those commands in Terminal:
      sudo mv -R /Volumes/EFI/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.14/* /Library/Extensions/ sudo chmod -R 755 /Library/Extensions sudo chown -R root:wheel /Library/Extensions sudo kextcache -i / Restart the system.

      It's done!

      And last but not least

      Hey everyone,

after years I come back to Hackintosh. In the early days I played with ozmosis and my good old 4700k. Now I'm back and worked around a 100% working setup with enough power to get me through all my tasks like audio, video cut etc.

In this short tutorial I will guide you through BIOS Settings and give you access to my EFI Folder. This I do because I haven't found anything on the web for my setup. Maybe it will help some of you. When you follow the steps you will have a perfect running Hackintosh like I do have now

I've chosen the iMac 18,3 because of the easy integration of both Graphic Units and the support of HEVC.

      Specs:

CPU: Intel i7 9700k (Overclocked in Bios to 4,7 GHz)
SMBIOS: iMac18,3 (Because of Dedicated Graphics and HEVC Intel Support)
      RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4-3200 DIMM CL16 (XMP Profile to 3200MHz)
Motherboard: MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON (MS-7b17) <- It's the model without WLAN/Bluetooth
      Graphic Card: Sapphire RX580 Nitro+
Bluetooth & WLAN: Broadcom Card in PCI Adapter

      What is working:

Almost everything! All USB Ports, Intel Power Management, Bluetooth, WLAN, LAN, Intel Graphics HEVC, Boot/Reboot, Sleep

      What is not working:

Facetime & iMessage (Don't need it but I will come back to this)

      Steps:

      1. Create Mojave 10.14.5 USB Drive | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CZDXxKfodE&t=95s | Us this tutorial or search the forum
      2. Load my EFI Folder: https://workupload.com/file/zkJ4zdQk
      3. Go into your bios and use my settings in the Screenshot I attached
      4. Boot from USB Stick | Install Mojave | Boot into Mojave (Check other Tutorials if you don't know how)
      5. Generate Serials with Clover Configurator
      6. Happy Hackintosh Life!

      Kext I use:

      AppleALC.kext | Needed for Sound
      BrcmFirmwareData.kext | Needed for my WLAN/Bluetooth Card
      BrcmNonPatchRAM2.kext | Needed for my WLAN/Bluetooth Card

      FakeSMC.kext | Standard
      IntelMausiEthernet.kext | Ethernet
      Lilu.kext | Standard
USBInjectAll.kext | To fix all USB Ports
      WhateverGreen.kext | Needed for graphics

If you have success with my little tutorial and EFI Build let me know! Hope you reach the desktop and will be happy!
